Need Help - Bazaar Rental Dispute
Hi,
I rented a booth over weekend as I was drawn to the advertisment that organisers used to draw vendors.. It was stated that crowds are confirmed!!! in bold red. But it ended up to be very empty that resulted in very poor sale~!! I have already given my feedback to the organiser demanding for a partial refund.. What are the chances that I will get part of my money back since they don't deliver what they have promised? Any government organisation that I approach to complaint? I tried CASE & Small Claims Tribunals and BAILIFFS SECTION. Seems like they don't deal with this type of complaint.. If this organiser don't reply by wednesday, I will put up the whole story up here to warn everyone to stay off this organiser~!! |
Re: Need Help - Bazaar Rental Dispute
I think I got the answer already.. I think I will need to approach Civil Justice Division.. Anyone know any other way?
|
Re: Need Help - Bazaar Rental Dispute
which organiser and which area is that?
i was at a flea market with bad turnout too. a few of us petition for refund. the organiser didnt even bother with us even tho the rent is like $20 (for me) to $60. i sold only a measly $8 of product cos there was hardly any traffic, other than the other sellers and our friends. haiz.. lost out on my taxi fare to reach that place too anyway it's hard to "confirm" crowds. we vendors can only assess the amount of publicity, as well the type of publicity, involved |

mi @ safra mount faber bazaar too! I m Pinky from dolly deer. which organizer u get e booth from? i know a little bit of inner story, please share with mi b4 u complain ok? |
Re: Need Help - Bazaar Rental Dispute
mount faber safra... i was at mount faber safra... if I can find a few more people to do a petition and report this to Civil Justice Division, our stand could be stronger...
you may want to try? |
Re: Need Help - Bazaar Rental Dispute
precisely, if you dare to confirm crowds.. you better make sure that you can deliver or else be prepared to refund the rental fees...
if there is a crowd and I cannot make any sale.. then I will resign to my fate.. the average number of people that walk past my booth?? 1 per hour... how pathetic is that? Quote:

Re: Need Help - Bazaar Rental Dispute
Hmm.... Safra... I was there too and I pay $90 for 2 days:tantrum:
I agreed that there are no crowds and it was out of my expectation...:( But because of my unique products, I manage to have enough sales with profits:yippee: |

From what i know safra member or public actually can book a booth for a price range of only less then $25-$55 max for a day or 2.How much was the rental they charge you?i think they charge a much higher rental.Unless Safra got special event or free gifts for members if not,is quiet & sun slightly better crowd then sat. I been to a school bazaar of similar problem like yours & we got almost all the vedors of around 20 people to sign a petition to ask for full or partial refund.Cos even the space was the same but the REntal charges to different vendors are all DIFFERent price.Endup that fellow just totally went missing without any news & dont even answer his hp! To Lodge a complaint to whoever, black&white is very important & what they stated inside of what you sign also affects whether your complaint is it applicable.Hope you get news from them soon,if not just no choice take it as a learning lesson & dont book from them in the future. |
Re: Need Help - Bazaar Rental Dispute
hi all
i was at safra mt faber aso..selling kidswear..i was there in end april to..maybe just my 2 cents worth of comments below after been there twice: 1) crowd - more of safra members n maybe some tt stay nearby. not many walk in public. for end april, my sales was pretty slow though still able to cover rental. But last weekend was ok. i guess its aso due to school holiday started n more families were there enjoying the weekends. 2) organizer publicity - tis is impt. for the april, the organizer didnt do much publicity n crowd was super slow lor. the vendors were basically all sitting ard chit chating. at least last weekend, i saw more crowd walking past. 3) products - i tink product is very impt...i noe some vendors make zero sales on both days in april, can see tt their products not appealing to the crowd there..partly aso not much crowd lah. I was doing some kidswear n adult apparels in april, crowd is soso n slow. last weekend was solely on kidswear, so sales was much better. 4) I tink the organizer did some effort on the publicity, but then due to the location n accessibility, i guess perhaps only safra members n those nearby will come cos not central area lor. Lastly, I did my own publicity to my own customer thru mailing list. some of them came down to support me n bght quite a lot of stuff. so mayb can always do like wise for any bazzar tt we go. above is just my own comments n experiences..hope no offence to anyone :) |
Re: Need Help - Bazaar Rental Dispute
Hi Efashionstore
The main reason we try new events in new locations is to generate customer awareness of our products.. to get new customers. If at this event you make good on your sales due to your own return customers then I say this event is BAD and not worth paying for! |
Re: Need Help - Bazaar Rental Dispute
hu huu.... i think quite a number of us here were @ safra last weekend!! yup e most popular booth is e kids wear, but issit most of ur customers ur regular n went down to support u? cos some of my customers reflects to mi tat then dun even know we r having bazaar there, then i tap them saying e organiser did give flyers lei, but they say they jus live around there n dint recieve any flyer, if they know they will hav come earlier....... n lucky Apple help mi intro her aunt to my booth, if not i really cant cover e rental n petrol.
Thanks again Apple! |
Re: Need Help - Bazaar Rental Dispute
hi petchow
most of my customers are not thru my own customer mailing list. I merely said i try to do tt to get some of my customers to come down n support me, hoping to get more publicity n generate more revenue. I do mainly online, so i guess cld be a good chance for them to come down n meet n see my products too. so far, i noe less than 5 came down. only 1 bght quite a number of items from me n apple. the rest came n maybe 1 pc or none. I shld say tt most customers are mainly from the crowd itself. of cos i agree with u tt if all are my own customers, then their marketing is bad. i am not trying to defend the organiser or so. as mentioned above, just my 2 cents worth of thoughts n experience being there twice n with 2 different organisers. hi dollydeer the organiser did told me abt flyers distribution. frankly, i didnt ask my customers how they get to know abt tis bazzar. after being there twice, tis is my own conclusion abt the location n crowd. Only safra members n limited crowd n ur products too play a part. if I were to try safra mt faber again, I will prob go when they have events or school holidays. maybe to share aso on the ECP big splash, i was there on 23 n 24 may as well doing kidswear. sales was gd too. but my fren who shared the booth with me, her sales was pretty bad n slow..she is doing korean tee n boxers. For that place, i tink many of us aso ve different views n thoughts on location, crowd, products n organisers too. seriously, i aso been to places with low sales or no sales...always very worried when i try a new location for bazzar :) |
Re: Need Help - Bazaar Rental Dispute
frankly, if we can noe how to settle such dispute, I am glad to noe as well. cos I been to some bazzar before with no crowd, no sales.
thus, if gets to noe the procedure of such, it will be good cos its not always sunny days for me in every bazzar. good to keep such info on hand. |
Re: Need Help - Bazaar Rental Dispute
Hi efashionshop,
I was upset not because my sales was bad.. I am upset because I was drawn to the "Confirmed Crowd" advertisement... but the crowd turned out to be a big disappointment. If there is really a crowd and my sales was equally bad, I would have kept my mouth shut... Plus the organiser service is BAD. Not only did they MIA according to the agent for the event.. I requested for light to be switched on as my booth was pretty dim.. They ignored me~!! They could have told me Safra rejected my request and I would have been slightly appeased... I would treat this as misrepresentation & misleading information given in the effort to get vendors to rent the booth. On top of that.. very bad service... And you mentioned that you think that "you tink the organizer did some effort on the publicity" Did you do your own checks or did you just assume? 2 of the vendors that I have asked checked with their customers and they did not rec'd any flyers. What kind of sales can I make if there was only an average of 1 person per hour that walk past my booth?? |
Re: Need Help - Bazaar Rental Dispute
wow.. that is quite a bad experience. i did one round in apr and sales wasnt too bad for me. not sure if its the same organiser. the one you did was by which organiser? would wan to make sure i do my research if i do any fleas with them. PM me if you wan to keep it privvy. ;) thanks in adv!
|
Re: Need Help - Bazaar Rental Dispute
I am not saying that I will ask for refund everytime my sales is bad... I know that there are risks in renting a booth.. And it is not fair to the organiser too... if people are always asking for refund
But like what I mention previously, this particular organiser failed to deliver what they have stated.. If you look at the rest of the ads under retail resources... not many people put "confirmed crowd".. most of them put expected crowd.. So when I saw that particular ad, I was naturally attracted... |
Re: Need Help - Bazaar Rental Dispute
hi swee18
i called her a few times n aso asked abt the publicity cos was a bit concerned since april experience. she said abt flyer distribution as well as thru mailing list. so at tt pt of time, can only trust wat she said n hope sales n crowd will be ok. may i noe which advert u refer to n how u get to noe abt it.cos mine was thru email circulation tt i got to know abt the event. on the flyer, nothing mentioned abt crowd so tts why i kept asking her thru phone n tt was the reply i got. but as i replied dolly deer, i didnt ask the customer how they got to come to tis bazzar. |

i was informed that there would be activities to bring crowd to safra, there was this f1 thing for one month, then some water things for kids this month.. just that not my targetted market, so havent taken it up yet those going for sculpture square flea, you may also want to take note too. the organisers that i spoke to for both the weekend! art & craft bazaar as well as the H.E.A.R.T. market told involved, but a pity that the crowds are still not drawn in much. last weekend i participated in weekend!, my sales was very slow, and i thot worse come to worse i shall pack up and leave early. but i realised most of my customers come in at 2pm to 3.30pm, a sudden influx in fact! then i asked them, they are mothers who sent their kids to NAFA nearby for art classes. perhaps the organisers can tap on this market for their flyers distribution too. other customers were bringing their kids for sculpture square activities, but these were few, most of these got to know of this event cos they are on sculpture square mailing list and have participated in previous years activities, and one said she saw the event on newspaper |
Re: Need Help - Bazaar Rental Dispute
hi efashionshop,
I have sent you the email.. thanks |
Re: Need Help - Bazaar Rental Dispute
On my way to sub courts now.. wish me good luck! Since the organiser do not wish to even refund partial rental... I am going to claim for full refund... byebye.. will keep everyone updated.. hopefully the court will favour me because of false claims made by them...:yippee:
Will not disclose anything now for the time being coz I am not sure if I need to sign any confidentiality agreement form.. if I do not need to.. then I will put their names now for everyone to avoid them in future! For all flea/bazaar organiser to note, DO NOT put down strong words like guaranteed or confirmed in the attempt to draw vendors to rent your booths/stalls unless you already have a confirmed guest list... otherwise be prepared to receive complaints...:coffee: :thanx: |
Re: Need Help - Bazaar Rental Dispute
HI there...
I was at mount faber last weekend. I was selling some manicure products and tea tasting... Agreed that sales was really slow on the 1st day and every vendors was just walking and chit-chatting... But sales did pick up on the 2nd day and i still managed to cover one day rental.. still have losses though.. I do agree that the crowds were mainly parents bringing kids for classes and crowds were streaming in very slowly.. What an experience i got for the 1st time!!! |

Re: Need Help - Bazaar Rental Dispute
Dear All,
We are Flea freak the organizers, We read this forum and had taken note of each and everyone comment. Would like to take this opportunity to clarify e issue: 1.)I reckon most of your who are speaking here in this forum, joined this event thru Ament Organizers. a) We read e email that sent by Ament through one of his/her vendor that crowd level was confirmed in Bold Red. This statement was not committed by Flea freak. We DID NOT mention any points of confirmed crowd through any means. Our circulation of email mainly state e date, venue and a simple registration form. 2.)Flyers some vendors did reply us e publicity for this event, we did mentioned that e 2 days coincide the school holidays and we also did mentioned e flyers will be distributed within the vinicty which we did performed. 3.)Organizer MIA As we have few events running at e same time, each event will be allocated with a person in charge, as a point of contact should there be any issue that arise in this event. Moreover our colleague was introduced to every one of you before we take our leave. We had contacted e agent 2 days back due to one of the vendor given feedback, But we had failed to receive any form of reply through email or phone till date, pertaining to e misleading information. We shared the same level of disappointment with this agent as they have mislead our pull of vendors into thinking that we did not honor what we had committed. We hope that the agent should give you’ll a reasonable reply. We hereby will not wish to work with Ament for any of our event, should they not give Fleafreak a satisfactory explanation. We hope that we had clarify all the above. Thank you Fleafreak |
Re: Need Help - Bazaar Rental Dispute
I own a retail shop and have quite a lot of old stock to get rid off .2 years ago I rented a space in cineleisure for 3 days and the organizer collected one day rental as deposit from me only Sales was so bad 2nd day I quitted is so hot under the tent is unbearable. The other vendors was doing quite well selling accessories and the organizer himself was selling T-shirts and very cheap apparel.
I negotiated with the organizer not to charge me for the remaining 2 days and he said no.So I said to him if you want the money come to my shop to collect until now after 2 years he did not come and collect the money. I am quite lucky in a way.:) |
Re: Need Help - Bazaar Rental Dispute
Hi all,
I've read all the of your entries and have had similar experience before. I believe you guys have signed up with Intrepid. Organisers such as this one will definately paint a very good picture of the location. They even take pictures of the past events with angles to make the whole place crowded. I was at Safra @ mt. faber before and Intrepid did mention about confirmed crowds but in the end it was very disappointing. Anyway, it's pointless to fault the organiser in such a case as you are the willing party who fall for it. So take it as a $120 lesson. It's so crazy to bring the organiser to court or something over such things. They are not liable. |
Re: Need Help - Bazaar Rental Dispute

is the event organise by Intrepid that bad? they had a event today at Kallang Leisure park and i see got a good crowd there. i was thinking of getting a booth there next time. Any advise for me? Cheers |
Re: Need Help - Bazaar Rental Dispute
one pointer to note is.. never believe the photos that the organisers post. try to search online the event photos that bloggers took; or better still, go to the event yourself, to determine the crowd.
as for me, sculpture square painted quite a bad picture to me in terms of crowd. but surprisingly i did quite good sales at the weekend! art & craft bazaar. when i asked my customers, most were passerbys who have children having classes nearby / went to church nearby. only one or two came cos of the publicity |
Re: Need Help - Bazaar Rental Dispute
Hi,
why do you say that the organiser is not liable?? Is it from any legal point of view?? To make small claim is very cheap.. only SGD10.00 per case if your claim is less than 5k.. They are conning people into renting their stall.. surely that can be reported.. Oh.. And I sign up with Ament.. They disappeared into thin air after fleafreak exposed them... If they think that they are not in the wrong.. they should be like fleafreak come out and clear doubts about them... Prove that they did not mislead their vendors :coffee: Quote:

Re: Need Help - Bazaar Rental Dispute
Hi,
I think the best thing to do is to forget about the whole thing, laugh it off and don't go with the event organizer again... sometimes, the effort to pursue the matter is not worth it... it is better to focus on doing sales or more personal marketing... just my two cents' worth... hmmm... they did say two's company and three's a crowd, so technically, if there are 3 passerbys, it's a crowd :laff: ultimateworker |
