China wholesale websites usually requires big amount orders.
So i suggest you should look for some local artist who does great accessories and unique gifts for this occasion.

Would appeal more to s'poreans.

Hi singyen,

I'm a newbie too... What I did was to google for the product I want online. It's pretty useful, I manage to find some supplier in China that takes only small bulk. Good Luck in your googling.

For payment via western union, you just have to go to SingPost & remit e payment. Do note Western Union do charge a transfer fee. http://www.westernunion.com.sg/SingPost.html

Hope I helped

From my understanding, Western Union is not advisable for oversea payment. The other party may get the money and not shipping goods. And there is limited or no way to track them.

Try to use pay pal which is safer :)

Western Union & paypal are fast but the currency rate is not that good.
Try those remittance firm in china town and you can easily save up to 50-80 with $1000 of transaction.

Just an observation, how much does your goods have to be worth before customs tax you?

I've been importing frequently small quantities of items from Japan to save me on tax, anyone?

With Paypal, both paying and receiving party need to register with Paypal. If there is any dispute, like goods not receive, Paypal can help to claim back the money. Check it out www.paypal.com ;)

Hi there,

The reason why you have to buy in big quantity because they offer the wholesale price which is really cheap. I guess if you only need small bulk, you will have to source out local suppliers who offer less minimum purchase but you won't get the wholesale price. Having said that, you will still make a profit out of the products.

Another solution is to find partners who are willing to buy the products from your wholesale vendor. In that way, you can reduce your minimum purchase by having the quantity shared between you and them.

I'm using Western Union at SingPost to pay my overseas supplier. After payment is made, you will have to notify your supplier of the MTCN No and your full name in order for them to receive the payment from Western Union agent in their country. They will get the payment in minutes. But this only apply if you know the supplier you are dealing with. I mean reliable suppliers who are running real business. Yeah, it's kind of difficult to guarantee that unless you have someone to check for you on the existence of the company. Or maybe do a search on the website.

Re: How to get items from overseas countries to sell in Singapore?

I met with these probs too when just start out. Costs simply too high. You can try getting local suppliers to start. Importation from China is not easy... Cost too high, inferior quality and some damage here and there. Unless you can confirm the company is reliable, otherwise do not tke any risks.;)

Well, first of all, you will need to have a company and company account.

now, the second bit is that you should know how to do TT, short for telegraph transfer, it is the most convenient without you having to go to a western union branch.... Another thing about TT is that, the receiving party can never claim that the money never went to them as all the records are kept by the bank.

Another thing about MOQ is that, while MOQ exist for a good reason, most company will accept a lower ordering quantity.... but at a higher price.... this is all commercial negotiation and that, you can either look to other businesses locally to help get meet the quantity or that you can pay a higher price...

one word of caution, always QC through sample orders... those that you see on web might not always be a fair representation.... And you might want to look at a DHL or forwarder account for your shipping...
