agreed with what you said.... i always did that too

There can be a lot of reasons behind your "many pageviews little sales". Let me go into your blog now and see if I can help further improve your website with my 2 cents worth!

Good Luck! ;)

Hi dear, juz saw your posting asking for my comments on your blog. Sori for the late reply. Haven't got time to read the forum in details recently, only got time to update my pics in the bizub-wholesale supplier section. :p

okie, here we go.... if u don't like what I write, no hard feelings ya....(but u can scold me since I can't hear u :laff: )

1. Shopname - Took me a while to find your shopname. I know it's in the URL but in my opinion, u need to make it more prominent in your blog, specifically the banner. That's the way customers gonna remember u. Advertising through word-of-mouth is effective but do u want customers to remember u as "JustGift" or "Pet Trees". :confused2:

2. Pet Tree - This seems to be your key product. If so, make the banner clearer. Those individual pics of pet trees look good. Is it possible to have the pics of pet trees on 1 page for easier comparisons. I was viewing PT02 Cross Catcus, by the time I reach PT05, I can't remember what PT02 looks like! If putting them side by side will make the pics smaller, then consider a zoom in function if that's possible in blogger...

3. Format - How about having different sections, one for pet trees, one for house decor, one for computer & stuff (or whatever u call them). I can see that u are updating by dates. But if u are selling gifts, then as a shopper, I would prefer to search by gift category. If those modems and stuff happens to be just extras & non related to JustGifts, may be u can group them under "Misc", "Other barangs barangs" or the like. If u want to bring your customers' attention to your latest products, u can always have a "New arrival' section.

4. About me - Hey, u should be proud of your blog. Try to beef up your "About me" section. If not, remove that, it doesn't tell me anything useful. I'm here looking for gifts, not accountant...

5. Font color - Take note of the color u use. For eg, refer to your foldable vase updates. U said "Bulk Purchase Welcome"... it's in black but I can hardly read it. Too many colors can be confusing.... can consider standardizing the colors use meaning use red for prices, green for header, etc.

6. cbox - I see some interesting comments from customers. Good stuff. But I see a ICCY posting a link up. Guess what? I have almost forgotten that I'm supposed to view and comment on your blog, I wanted to go into ICCY's blog because ICCY says everything under $30... sounds attractive... U see, this is the danger of having a cbox. See if u can do anything about those link ups. Perhaps a separate section dedicated to exchange of links? (Sorry, I'm juz thinking and jotting down whatever comes to mind without giving much thought to the possibility of implementing them in blogger)...

7. Order information - I can only see a contact for bulk purchase. Yeah, make this big and clear too. Seems like u don't have any section on Order/Payment/Delivery Instructions or did I miss it out... (Struggling to open my eyes...)...

okie, that's all for tonite... if I can think of anything else I'll pm u. Nite nite!

By the way, well done & keep it up! Interesting products u have!

Hello FF Fashion and all,

Need some help and feedback to attract customers.

I've recently set up an online store.. but orders are pathetic and it's really depressing. Though i do not know whats the definition of high traffic as it's new and i dont link up alot of other shops. But, traffic are alright so far i guess.

QiCheng sounds like a marketer.. any comments?

not sure if i can post my link here.. so i put it n my profile. do let me know if you can find it.

Thanks all!

Hello FF Fashion and everybody else,

This is a newcomer to the online business world. I set up my business in January and have been having limited success. I know the single biggest barrier to achieving greater sales is the lack of time, and I'm quitting my full-time job to pursue this business full-time.

With the increased energy and focus from 1 May, I'll be doing a lot more things to the website (like creating more pages, adding photos of past events, submitting more pages to search engines, etc).

Anyhow, for now, would you visit my site (URL in my profile) and give me your comments? By the way, I distribute Vietnamese coffee.

Thanks!

Re: How to attact/get more people to buy from your online store?

Hello duriancake,

For some strange reason, I can't seem to quote and reply to your message above. So read here... this is for you.... :juggle:

OMG! You are gonna be real mad  with FrouFrou for the feedback.... some comments may sound blunt / offensive but hopefully no hard feelings on your part....

1. Your duriancake ID coupled with your "everything's pretty wonderfully yummy" concept while special, is not necessary ideal for fashion & accessories. I was thinking you are in F&B trade! Also, going forward, will all your products be food related becos if not, u are limiting yourself with your 'pretty wonderfully yummy' concept.

2. High traffic.... while it doesn't necessary guarantee sales, high traffic means higher potential sales. If traffic is alright or if traffic is high and sales are no good, then this spells problem. Also to note, online traffic count does not always reflect the true traffic count. Your competitors may be checking out on your blog everyday so u think there's traffic ya?

3. Perhaps questions to ask yourself is "is there a demand for my product?" Do a quick survey. Take your products and show them to your friends and neighbours and see how many will be interested to buy. Alternatively, try a poll if Pushcart Forum allows. Sometimes even if a product is cheap, customers may not buy them if there's no need for it or they simply don't like it. This is the real world. Demand vs Supply.

4. Home page - In my opinion, your home page is totally wrong! Imagine entering your website and the 1st thing to read about is an apology... and remember, shoppers didn't visit your website to give u feedback on fonts, colors etc, they are there to shop! Yes, u can ask for feedback but do that on some other sections, not in the homepage.

5. About page - You got customers all excited about products for him and her but in actual fact u only have some earrings and bracelets. Do not kick start if you are not ready. First impression counts. With so little items, customers are unlikely to return.

6. About page - "Stay tuned because Cherryblosson Town will bring to you any pretty wonderfully yummy things that you can find in any other typical towns" If it's something that we can find in any other typical town, I reckon we don't need to visit your website, we can buy them anywhere.

7. Sakura Friends - Good ideas but to be entitled to that 15% requires a min $40 purchase. At this stage, it doesn't look at all attractive becos with your product base, to chalk up $40 purchase seems rather difficult. Implentation of promotions and sales require planning too!

8. Order form - Clear cut. See if u can do away with pasting x times for x quantity ordered.

9. Contact Us - Is 3 email accounts really necessary? As a shopper, I wish for 1 point of contact ie 1 email 1 correspondent. Hassle free, quick & fast. And 3 working days seem very long considering your products are mere accessories.

10. Terms of Use/ FAQ - I understand that each section serves it's own purpose but I think there's some repetition... I mean long and wordy repetition. See if u can simplify the info.

11. FAQ - "However, there is no guarantee for any exchange, refunds", "however we hope that you can understand that even offline stores can miss out some defected stocks"...... Be careful with phrasing. Negative statements tend to turn customers away if not reduce their confidence in your online store. Proper phrasing requires skills. Study how others do up their website.

Bottomline is.... I think u need to relook at your products and your target consumer groups. If initial sales are no good, it's only natural for confidence level to drop, u are not going to survive long so prove us wrong .... Nothing is impossible, only thinking makes it so....

You still have a long way to go..... Good luck ;)

Hi FF fashion, no worries. i post it so i can improve.

though it's quite *ouch ouch ouch* but.. your feedback are very much appreciated! haha..

"everything's pretty wonderfully yummy" it came from pretty, wonderful and yummy things.. so is 3 different things.

but since it can let you have the wrong idea, i'm sure others will as well.. :)

thanks alot!

Excellent  I'm sure to date there's no wasted effort on your part because it's a learning experience and only those who have gone through will know and understand. Even I myself am still learning but my biggest problem is plain laziness :D I can be here making suggestions to fellow forummers but some times I'm juz too lazy to "beautify" my album & pics :p

So is this Jack we are talking to?

First of all, thumbs up for My Cafe Adventures. It takes a lot of courage to quit a full time job, step out of your comfort zone, to take that challenge and be an entreprenuer. Well done

FrouFrou is all about ladies fashion, so am not in the best position to advise F&B trade but when forummers attention their postings to me, I will try my best to respond, so do take my feedback with a pinch of salt given our different trade and the fact that I don't in fact operate online but in physical storefront :p

Here we go.... nice website u have....

1. When I first enter your website, I like it's simple professional look but as I scroll down......."facebook", "******", "My forum", "Guest Book", "Testimonial"... too many "distractions". Are all these necessary? In my opinions, "Coffee at your party", Customers' testimonial and My forum are the key ones.

2. "facebook", "******", "My forum", "Guest Book", "Testimonial"... are of different banner shapes n size (or whatever u call those boxes/links).... this makes the page now looks less professional. Top half looks good, bottom half no no... I'm not sure if u understand what I'm trying to say. The banner for your partners (sam's deli, virtual office etc) can be of different size but they have their own signage but for stuff like testimonial, my forum, etc, see if u have a way to simplify/standardize them. Sometimes keeping it simple may be the best way to go.

3. "every cuppa tells a story".... nice one but that filter thingy doesn't look very nice leh. I actually like the "cup & saucer" border more.... makes me feel more like wanting to drink coffee... Your signage needs to be attractive ya?

4. Products and Prices - As u introduce the products, suggest u include the prices. I keep wondering where are all the prices until I come across your order form. But when I reach the order form, for someone who is not familiar with all these coffee brands, I keep having to refer back to the product pages.

5. While the website is important esp when it captures your customers' testimonial, as yours is F&B trade, customers really need to be able to smell n taste your products, I would suggest after u quit your job, do what u need to do for the website and get out there and do even more outside your website. I'm sure u already have all your plans lined up eg tie-up with more delis, advertising, promotion, marketing..... blah blah blah

Like I said, nice website u have. Good stuff. Clear cut and to the point. U have come so far, juz continue to look ahead, your business may become the next Starbucks, Coffee Beans or Breadtalk!

It's getting late.....I better stop here before I start talking/writing rubbish :laff: ....

If u go to "BIZHUB" - "Retail Listings" - "Wholesale Suppliers" section, goto page 4, u can see FrouFrou's posting. From there, there's a link to our photo album.

Wahaha.... sori to disappoint but there's nothing fantastic in ours. Purpose of our album is to serve as a general guide for our wholesale and retail buyers so that they know what are the latest designs we are carrying. We usually recommend buyers to come down to our store to view the apparels and for retail buyers to try for the best fit, hence u don't get much details in the album but we always welcome enquiries from everyone. :D

Juz one more point to make... actually it came to mind last nite but as I've already switched off my laptop, so I thought I will do it today.

Before u make any changes, might be a good idea to just sit back and rethink your entire business plan & business concept. U may think yours is only a small online business but if u fail to plan, u plan to fail.

Any changes that u do now are likely to be piece-meal, targeting only selective section of your website but u are very much working in the "pretty wonderful yummy" concept.

Even if u are sure this is the concept u want to adopt, I would suggest u take a pen and paper and jot down all the changes & improvements u want to make, look at it in totality before u hit the button.

Am I making sense? :)

yups.. certainly make sense. i'm actually making offline changes to ideas and plans, but i feel it's necessary to make some slight changes to the site, like removing repeition, rephrasing, making it clearer etc.. at least make the site less hostile or messy.. :) hope to improve the look and feel so that impression won't be as bad! haha..

hope i'm doing the right thing though. =/

Re: How to attact/get more people to buy from your online store?

Hi Duriancake,

I have seen those changes u made. Nice ones!

It's a good idea to introduce "Sakura Friends" in the home page esp now that u offer free membership with ANY purchase! See if u can make those pics bigger. And there's a missing word .... "Make any purchase and get to be Sakura Friends! Hurry now before promotion ends."

And I like the revised Contact Us page with that drop-down box for selecting the appropriate subject matters.

Perhaps u want to share with your customers why u have chosen this interesting yummy concept of fashion accessories, and u can do that via the About page.

Work on providing customers with more unqiue and interesting products and yup, see if u can get your name out there.... search engine, forums, whatever.... ;)

Re: How to attact/get more people to buy from your online store?

thanks!

actually i was thinking if i should replace the yummy word.. though it's catchy but its misleading. many link it to food even though it could mean, "very pleasing to the senses..", "extremely attractive or appealing." etc..

it is especially misleading when place together as pretty wonderful yummy.. maybe some simplier words like fantastic, etc are better.. still working on it..

though explaining on 'About' page works.. but anyone who first see it won't know and any misleading is not good i guess.. its like if they think it's food or what and they are not interested, they won't even end up at abt page right?

The word yummy is ok and I think it really depends on how u use it. Just drop u an email at Cherryblossom town. There's a website I want u to check it out. The link is in that email. Might be useful to you. ;)

Re: How to attact/get more people to buy from your online store?

Well, here's my experience.

I guess the best way to kick start is just get a tag board. Though yes, you would get spammed by others like mad but it doesn't matter so long as you also advertise on their tagboard, this is just a way to increase traffic and it works very well.

Since nobody might have known about your shop during the early stages. But slowly when you start seeing your own pool of customers, you can just ignore the tagboard already. Words will spread by mouth/emails and your own mailing list.

Big, clear pictures are very important. And avoid colors that hurts the eyes like sparkling and moving backgrounds, shocking bright colors that kills our eyesight. Other than that, I think it's really on how much effort you put in to beautify a product.

HI!

Is it necessary to invest in a good SLR camera that costs $1000- $4000? I have an online store but I do admire this store [Commercial Link Removed].Their pictures are really nice and I am contemplating whether to purchase the SLR camera for my clothes. I am currently using a 7.2 Mega Pixels Lumix Digital Camera =(

I don't think it's a must. I just use a normal canon camera for my blog shop and my friends told me they thought I took it off some magazines. >_<

But depends on you, unless you really crave for good quality and professional shoot is one of your interests.

One way is to leave comments in blogs and forums. Usually you will need to leave your site address & nick in order to post. Your nick will be the hot link to your site. But note that it will be better to leave constructive comments or something relevant to the topic, try not to blatantly advertise your site which most ppl frowns upon.

be careful some forums do not even allow indirect advertisement. like leaving your link/site at your signature, etc. so, do read their rules first! :)

KittyMi 19-10-2008 06:15 PM

Re: How to attact/get more people to buy from your online store?

Yes, I do agree on that. But it is good to hang around so that you become a familiar nick in the forum. Some forums have attached chat rooms, ppl will ask details about you, that's when u can drop some bits about your business.

Re. website. I think besides the various tips offered above by some members, I think size of the photos also matters. Not so small that customers cannot see the details of the products but not so big that it takes minintes to load! I lose my patience if the pg take more than few secs to load :). So it is good to test your a few of your product image sizes before uploading the whole bunch.

Re: How to attact/get more people to buy from your online store?

some comments may sound harsh, some comments may be opinionated, so take all comments with a pinch of salt ya... when bloggers asked for comments, my comments are given more from a customer perspective because I dont own any online shop.

1. background of dull poka dots.... Nothing seductive at all. Perhaps your "Panther Seductions" is not meant to be taken in that way but some customers may think along that line, so end results is disappointment before they even start shopping..... at least that's the case for me. Beef up the backdrop. Can try more fun and bright colors or if u are going along the line of 'class and sophistication", use more classy backdrop then.

2. overwhelming request - if it is an overwhelming request, then bold it, highlight it, and it stands out, get people's attention.... chunks and chunks of words will only turn customers away.... a pic speaks a thousand words...

3. Items left out - No need to highlight in words products that are left out, find other ways to showcase your apparels. Anything that's negative, if u really need to bring it across, do so in a positive/neutral way.

4. Price adjustment - Enough that u yourself know about customers' complaint re high prices, dont mention in your blog, adjust downward accordingly and find other means to bring the lowered price to customers' attention for eg. juz bring on a sale or some promotion and going forward, go with the new price range.... As a customer, when I see this message, I get a bit worried and I will become wary of your products and prices even when it is something within my buying power. Human nature.

5. Ultimate goal - I suppose it's the structure of the blog, earlier entries get archived or put it in another way, new entries sit right at the top. But I think you ultimate goal is fairly important.... this should preferably be kept at the top or front page of your blog because you want to let customers know what they are going into/for.... A bit like a mission/value statement...

6. Purchase method - U have 2 ways to order. Keep it simple. Ok to have various ways of payment but when it comes to ordering, really 1 is enough liao. This will also ensure that u will not miss any post/comments. But hor, when I click on that 'how to order" page. Actually that flowchart is blur and doesn't help, only serves to scare away customers. I didn't even bother to look at it, seems complicated to me so first thought is "ah.. .forget it"

7. Product category - Didn't think those will be considered formal wear but nevertheless my suggestion is to cut down the number categories for the time being. If people are already missing out some of your products, having more categories will simply means more products will be missed out...

8. Traffic hits - Are u targetting the right audience? Having hits doesn't mean that anything, who are the ones viewing your websites? Go back one more step, where did u market/promote your website? This seems to be a problem for most online sellers, take a while to build up your presence in the internet world.

9. Products - My suggestion is u do a poll in this forum (ie tab on fellow forummers' fashion taste/sense/thoughts) or do a quick survey among your own friends and relatives to find out what people think about your choice of bags and apparels ie would they buy and what kind of price range are they willing to pay for online purchases. In fact this should probably be done before u embark on building your blog.

that's all from me :)
