Hi All,
I am a online seller :laff: . I am thinking way on how to get or attract more people to buy from my website :confused2: ?
Anybody would like to share on how and approximately how many people buy from your online store each weeks?
hmmmm....seem like it hard to get them to buy leh!:juggle:

Advertise through friends, forums, classifieds and yahoo groups. Include a link to your website whenever u send out emails. Get hold of your customers' emails and create a mailing list of regular customers. Make it a point to email your customers and get your customers to help forward your website to their friends.

Hi Peggy,

Online selling is never easy and sometimes it depends on luck as well. At least u have the traffic (pageviews), some don't even have that kind of luxury and end up spending $ doing advertising. Some lucky ones have local magazines borrowing their products and end up with free advertisements.

There can be a lot of reasons behind your "many pageviews little sales". Let me go into your blog now and see if I can help further improve your website with my 2 cents worth!

Here are my comments. No offence yah?

1. Your pics are not clear enough. Invest in a good camera.
2. Sometimes it's not juz the product itself, the background is important. Taking the pic against a notebook will not do. (check out "bag of love", I like the way they have taken their photos, sharp, clear and good choice of background. They are one of those whose products get featured in local magazines)
3. Limited choice.
4. Price is a little too high considering yours is online where minimal operating cost is involved. If the cost of goods is high, then u definitely have to consider repackaging your products to show their worth/value, otherwise think about how u can lower your base cost to rreduce your selling price.

is putting a "advertisement corner" for other online sellers on our blog a way of advertising too? I input a corner for enquiry and advertisment and end all both flooded with advertisments! was wondering if ppl just come to our blog and advertise their website/products. Was tinking if i should remove?

It is a form of advertising but perhaps not the best way. Suggest to remove. When I surf such blogs, I tend to lose focus on the blog itself, because those advertisements seem far more attractive, and I often find myself moving on from 1 blog to another eg I enter into Seller A's blog, saw some ads, pick 1 and enter into that blog, briefly look at that blog and saw some more ads, pick another one and move on again. :o

Furthermore, some sellers combine that "advertisement corner" with their customers' Q&A, very confusing. As a buyer, I don't even know if my queries have been answered. :roll:

Sorry for the late feedback. No hard feelings ya? Juz jotting down my first impression of your online site...

1) Too few varieties. More likely to be forgotten unless that very few pieces u have are truly unique.
2) Any reason why your prices in a shade of lighter grey?
3) Is 'blogroll' necessary? High chance of losing customers because when they enter into those websites, if stuffs are more interesting over there, it's good-bye to your website.
4) "the designer", not "the desginer"
5) Is handling charges ($0.30 to $1.50) justifiable? Always put yourself in the customer's shoes, if u buy a pair if earring and
6) If yours is a new site, consider offering some promotional discount.


Overall looks plain (other than the top header Candysnatchers with some really nice floral graphic which attracted me but only for a split second). Recommend u go into bagoflove.com and take a look at their website. I not related to them but stumble upon their website once upon a time and I'm still a frequent viewer.

If these represent required expenditure on your part before u can dispatch the item(s) to your customer, then it will help to explain to customer what this handling charges cover, say, to cover bubble wrap, etc etc. Otherwise, out of 10 customers, probably 9 will say "huh? got handling charges, then dont want lah, so expensive!".
6) If yours is a new site, consider offering some promotional discounts. Already it is difficult to attract hits, so for those who visited your website, don't u think there should be at least something to attract them eg free postage for 1st purchase, buy 2 get 1 free, etc.

oh yeah tarandip, maybe getting your customers feedback through your website is a big plus. So your newer customer are much convinced to buy from you. Insert online tag boards would be the finest / neat way.

Here's my feedback....

:clap:
- Easy navigation. Nice one. I like it that I can move around your blog easily by simply clicking on any one of the 6 catogories pic.
- Selected earring & pendant designs are truly unique, and for these unique pieces, their prices are reasonable considering they are yours truly designs.
- Naming your product and explaining to your potential customers the meaning behind the name does add a special meaning to it. Eg Garden of Hearts earring. Keep it up.
- Clear order info.
- Good idea to bring customers away from your home page where the "affiliates & ads" link sits.

and next,

:juggle:
- Designs for bracelets, bagcharms & hp charms can be further improved. $4 for a wooden pegs hp charms seems a bit high though.
- If pics can be bigger & clearer that will be better.

And like u mentioned in another post, market is quite saturated and there are so many online sellers, it's going to be difficult to earn a living out of online business. But hey, as long as there's still a passion in creating beautiful accesssories, keep the flame burning, u never know what will happen tomorrow. To be successful, u not only need capital & creativity but also lots of passion, determination and perseverance. ;)

Since there's lots of areas to talk about for both Tarandip and Baisimu, I've chosen the common aspect of Color that applies to both.


Colors that sell

One important aspect of online marketing and selling that is often neglected - is the use of color. Meanings are attached to colors in the same way meanings are attached to words. In fact, colors have a bigger effect than words because it is processed by your brain immediately.

To find out if your current color scheme matches the effect you want your website to have on visitors, it's good to ask yourself a few questions.


Who is your customer?

It's such a simple question, but really, few people get this right. It's usually "Oh, anyone who visits my website, I guess...".

Be specific.

Examples:

1. Young ladies who are still studying - from Upper secondary to Tertiary level.
2. Working adults who like reading fashion magazines.
3. People who love to bargain for the best deals.

What do they like?

Group 1 might like watching anime, korean dramas, or whatever. So the choice of colors for them might be either bright and energetic, or calm and soothing.

Group 2 might love things to be nice and sleek - black/white/gray color schemes might appeal to them. However, they might not want to buy cheap products. So selling stuff at $5 on a sleek looking website is inconsistent.



What mood do you want to convey to them?
Write down about 10 words that describe how you want people to feel when they visit your site. (e.g. "excited", "comfortable")

Choose 2-3 that are the most important to them. Don't choose what you like, because you're not the one buying.

Mmm... Hopefully your existing scheme matches your top 3 moods. If not, it's time to re-color :)

Tarandip & Baisimu
Both are greats look for a blog or entertainment website, but the effect might might work to your disadvantage.

Check out your website versus, let's say... Amazon.com. It's almost like choosing between 2 paths in a forest. A dark, scary path or a brightly lit path with birds chirping.

No reward for guessing which is more conducive for people to part with their money.

Your rainbow header's nice, matches the products you sell very well. Right below it, the 6 category image links give a different feel because it is in dull gray-scale. So in a sense, it conflicts with the feelings you are trying to portraying with the header.

Also, while your main blog baisimu.blogspot.com is white in color, it links back to tanoshibaisimu.blogspot.com, which is black. Once someone clicks on one of the pictures of the pouches, the bright "sky" turns jarringly dark. So, again, it has a conflicting effect.

While all these might be little things here and there, if a visitor experiences such "surprises" on your website, it will leave them with a niggling idea that more "surprises" (which might be unpleasant) might come if they buy something from you. So subconsciously, there's already a repelling factor.

Why take the chance, ya? :)

Oh i see... Ok tt makes sense. I shall change the bg colour for the tanoshi.baisimu page once my exams are over. But the colour of the accessory icons are in black and white delibrately so it'll create a contrast, you think it'll be better if they're coloured?

To determine "better", it depends on 2 things.

What is it supposed to contrast with?
Header? Webpage? Text below?


Why the need for the contrast?
Are you afraid visitors don't pay attention to those 6 images? They don't know that the images are clickable? Do you want them to concentrate on the header instead of the 6 images? Are you trying to add contrast because you can and like it?

In terms of directing the visitor's eye, making it dull and colorless as compared to the entire page is actually de-emphasizing it and making it less important visually. Your eyes will almost try to skip it subconsciously.

So, you're making your rainbow header more obvious while reducing importance to your 6 images. Is that your intention?

Also, do you know that there's already 3 existing levels of contrast in your 6 images without the color aspect? ;) Size, placement and font.

BTW, good luck with your exams! :) Shouldn't you be studying? :P

ahaha your last sentence almost made me feel guilty about doing this instead of studying, but oh well. anyways what you said is quite difficult to digest and i'll probably come back to it again on a day when i don't have any papers in the morning. hopefully it'll be easier to understand by then.

I assume you're talking about submitting the website to search engines?

Yes and No.

It is a good practice, but your website will probably rank very far back, perhaps 10-20 pages down in a search. As I'm sure you know, very few people will look up so deep into searches.

To really take advantage of submitting your website, you will need to make sure the search engines rank your pages very highly on relevance. This is called SEO (search engine optimisation).

There are tons of websites that tell you how to do it, so just do a search on "SEO".

Usability wise,

Visual Design
Wow, graphics all blend very well, giving a nice feminine feel. Color scheme is also chosen well. I like how the products are in full color while the background color is more subtle but yet shows off the items and compliments the whole picture. Do you come from a design background in school/work?

Navigation
Your Categories (right margin) should be higher up so people can navigate your products easily.

Instructions
I notice you end your entries with "To buy this item, please send email to ####"

A call for action is always a great way to end.

You might want to highlight the required info when sending an email. If not, there might be extra effort in back-and-forth messages... E.g. Product ID, address, handphone number if Singaporean, preferred payment mode, etc...

Information and Content
I like that you forecast their worries (rust and tarnish), giving information on the quality materials that you use. This adds to their trust in you as they might not want to spend extra effort in sending you an email about the item quality.

Are you able to push back your Sold items from your front page? It might be more useful for visitors to see what you have right now. Do have access to your sold item entries though, as they might want you to make an already sold item for them.

Marketing Copy
Add some positive comments from people who have bought your stuff to your website. Highlight it well, because it will add trust. Always name your quotes to show reliability, even better with photos.
