very hard...:(

Its sad but true. But think about it, some of us may not have the time to run fleas or bazaars and also do not have the capital to open their own shop and thus, display shops are the only ones that is within our budget.

for me, i'm "unlucky" in the sense that the box-shop i'm at is in a building with little human traffic. rent is high there since it's in the stretch of a "supposedly-high-traffic-area". not the box-shop owner's fault for low traffic, since the whole building also low traffic haiz.

although my relations with the "landlord" of the box-shop are cordial, i find that much can be improved with regards to their administration. for example, they rolled out their tenant manual few weeks after their shop opening. thot this should be given to the tenants on the day they sign agreement? (somemore it's not their first shop) anyway was pretty lost on the what to do, and even what time the shop actually opens until i email the outlet operations manager.

Guess u are referring to us. Yup, we've moved to century square as the plaza sing kiosk was too small. Feel free to pm us for details. We are currently planning for an Xmas bazaar in Dec so look out for our ads!

Hi everyone! I was wondering if anyone minds an "operator" putting in opinions here? I've never rented a box or space myself (how ironic) but I have lots of experience to share!

I agree with many of the opinions shared here about retailing. Most of them makes sense. If we take in all these feedback and try to consider every detail, we arrive at: The 4 P's of Marketing.

Product
Price
Promotion
Place

I'm sure many people have heard of these 4 P's but don't be too quick to dismiss them! Each P requires a strategy of its own, having a plan for all 4 will ensure that you will be running a profitable biz! I know many people plan their 4 P's like this:

Product: "Will people want to buy this?
Price: "Will this sell at $XX?"
Promotion: "Will this sell more if I give a discount?"
Place: "Let's get a box/ space/ table/ pushcart/ blogshop"

Some vendors have made profits without much planning. But I've seen many who are left disappointed with their sales too. To be successful in retail, you will need to ensure all 4 P's gel into your business plan. You will need to be bold to sell at higher prices, get your sales message to the right customers, invest in the right retail locations and so on.

So, good luck to everyone in your business! Feel free to contact us to discuss more ideas!

just to share, i did an acra search of the box-shop's company profile before i signed the lease, cost only $5 and can see who are the shareholders, how long they have been in business, and how much paid-up capital..

i dun really like working with pte ltd companies with $1 as paid-up capital :coffee: this somewhat tells me they either dun have enuf capital to begin with (hence charge us crazy rental), or they aren't really bothered about their company.. besides i'm quite paranoid over the owner running off with my hardearned $ and my handmade accessories - spent lots of time and effort on them! :laff:

oh and if u're feeling rich, u can also do a people search - $30 per name - on each of the shareholders. can see what are the companies he/she is/has been involved in :D
