Default Korea Imported Apparels , Worth the Price ?

Hi all

I am currently intending to import korea apparels from korea directly into singapore to sell as consignment basis to pushcarts , retails etc . However , i have heard many negative comments on this move of mine.. They include ;-

- Online blogshops also selling designs from korea at a much lower price ! ( those that are NOT from korea and of inferior materials )

- Costs so high ! How to cover ?!

- Everyone is also doing fashion apparels , too late to do now.

- Economy bad , no one will buy.

I am am quite discouraged and began to doubt whether my idea of " Quality over quantity " really does work or not ... can anyone advise ?

I am thinking of starting a retail bz and all the people i talk to is very discouraging too. I used to sell clothes at hotel fairs. But one thing for sure as a buyer, if your cost is expensive i.e. after we mark up the customers will not buy then no matter how good quality it is i will not stock up becos of the risks involve. Of course there is always exceptions and if the buyer knows his own customers spending power and taste then is fine. But with this financial climate i think the spending power had shrink and there is a lot of competition out there. Need to have an edge to make it work..something special and not too pricey. That is what i am looking for too :0 tell me if you find it!

Hi,

I'm quite agreed with Shuimu. I don't know how much higher your price will be compared to your competitors, if the price is just slightly higher is still worth trying. If the price difference is big, it would be a bit difficult unless it's branded stuff like LV bag, people will still buy even the price is so much higher than getting a normal range.

I'm not sure about elswhere, but I realised that most Singaporeans like to look for items with low cost, unless the better ones are just a little more pricely. In many purchases they rather "buy, spoilt, throw and buy a new one" with the same inferior quality even the cost of old+new= more expensive than getting one quality one because it gives them buying power in getting variety and quantity. This is also the reason why most of them ended up spending a lot, they buy and buy.

Of course there are those who really go for quality stuff but is only minority and this group of people may not get the chance to know your products.

Sometimes when I think about quality, maybe only apply in education where parents will certainly look for.

This is just my view, maybe I'm wrong.

Regards

I had the same experience as you. I wanted to import the clothes from Korea and I met up with a Korean supplier who came to Singapore to look for distributor. Their cost is really too high to digust. Unless I set up a fashion shop which will costs 20k for reno + deposit + etc... and another 30k for the goods. In the end I gave up and look for China supplier instead.

I just went to Korea a year back.... items selling at their retail outlets already so much higher than Singapore, really hard to sell at their pricing much less talking about profits! I love their accessories though

I own an apparel shop in orchard area i also advertising to give up.They are 2 group of Singaporean one group they like only sale and discount items they even ask you to give huge discount for your new arrival. They mindset is cheap cheap cheap.
Another group are they like branded stuff only they don't go for korean/china made clothings.
Apparel business in Singapore is very difficult to survive, rental high and most Singaporean do not have buying power they spending power are food.
