Re: How to Register for FOOD Business

hi hanger,

if your drinks are packaged - e.g. packet drinks or canned drinks - then u're able to retail at pushcarts, subject to the management's approval.

if your drinks need to be prepared - e.g. brew kopi type - u need to get a shopfront that allows for f&b preparation. go to http://www.business.gov.sg/EN/Indust...rage/index.htm for more information to find out more. would require nea approval, etc

for Food Stall License - go to http://www.business.gov.sg/EN/Indust..._FoodStall.htm

if you plan to operate within a market or a food court, search for Food Shop License

good luck :)

Hi POkerface,

Thanks for your advise...I have go thru the website...

I am planning to sell bottles drinks ...homemade drink and pack into bottles..

Re: How to Register for FOOD Business

uhm.. if you're gonna homemake the drinks, you need a workshop space, i think... you can't just do it at home.. but, better ask nea.

Re: How to Register for FOOD Business

hi hanger,

Mystech is correct. even if it's homemade drinks, you have to produce them in a licensed premise (eg: shop which allows for F&B preparation, or a central kitchen).

you cannot produce in your house kitchen then sell it as bottled drinks.

Re: How to Register for FOOD Business

oh yah, before i forget, other than the food stall license, u would need to register your business too (unless you're planning to sell in hawker centre stores. that only need food shop license).

Hi Pokerface & Mystech,

Thanks for your advise...

If will have to register , then get permit before i can start my beverage business...understand.

Shopping mall kiosk need to register as well? Like Bugis, ground floor...there is many kiosks selling foods and beverage ..those also need to get permit..

I have only limited funds....I wish to get space (small size) and per month 1K ..is it possible?? Rental in SIN really super expensive...:(

dearashiu 30-09-2008 05:06 PM

Re: How to Register for FOOD Business

Dear Hanger,
sorry to disappoint but 1K is impossible to get a kiosk in bugis or anywhere. If you try the wet market you might get lucky.
Last I heard bugis kiosk is around 4000. If you are only looking to sell homemade bottle drink i think it is cheaper to approach shops in raffles place like clifford pier etc and just be a distributor or rent one corner from them. In that way you don't have to apply for food shop license but make sure in contract stated you can be their licensee. However you still need a place to prepare your drinks so you still need some form of license for that. For registration of business , that is relatively easy and cheaper

Re: How to Register for FOOD Business

Dear Dearashiu,

I understand it is difficult to get rental at 1K :(
I wish to start at office area ..mainly for office crowd
Where is Cliford? hmm....I hope no need to apply for food license...my drink need to boil...cause I am selling chinese herbal tea ..

Re: How to Register for FOOD Business

hi hanger,

1k is very tough for CBD area. even hawker store like amoy and maxwell is around 1.8k to 2.5k per month in rental, not forgettin there's still the sc&c charges, and ur cost in raw materials and packaging. (anyway i did saw one at amoy level 2, doing quite well :))

anyway i dun think u can sell ur tea anywhere if ur place of manufacture is not licensed. u can consider getting a food stall/store (retail front) or central kitchen (manufacturing front - as suggested by Dearashiu - so u can do licensing & distribution). either way, u have to be licensed - either NEA or AVA.

pokerface 30-09-2008 11:26 PM

Re: How to Register for FOOD Business

regarding the bugis kiosk - yes have to be licensed as well. as long as u're selling f&b products, yes must be licensed.

i'm not so sure about those pasar malam stores tho, but i believe they do at least have to get a temporary permit to sell f&b items

Re: How to Register for FOOD Business

clifford centre is one of the "older" buildings you see when you step out of raffles mrt. busy lunch crowd :)

dearashiu 02-10-2008 11:21 AM

Re: How to Register for FOOD Business

Yup I agree. Clifford centre is beside caltex house. You can approach the food shops to sublet a corner to you but seems you need quite a bit of space if you are boiling the herbal tea and I'm not sure if they are willing to do so. If they sublet the corner to you, their food shop license should be sufficient to cover for you as well, but you must ensure that it is stated clearly in the contract that you are the licensee. Actually getting a license is not that difficult just alot of paperwork so you may want to consider applying your own license.

Re: How to Register for FOOD Business

Yes I think the website is pretty clear I have been there before. But I think you need to have the premises before you apply for the food shop license though you can't operate until you get it.

Best is you just take over a drink stall in the market, think the food shop license can be transferred to you. But still need to register your business in acra but that is quite easy.

Re: How to Register for FOOD Business

Hi, Dearashiu & Pokerface

Dearashiu -- For your suggestion -- take over drink stall at the market...you mean the hawker centre at HDB area?

I am thinking where to set up my business...inside shopping mall...the rental is high ...my selling price is between $1.20 - $ 2.00 ...so, hawker centre should be cheaper (correct me if I am wrong)

I need to have enough space for boiling equitment and fridge :(
Definitely, I can not boil at home..got to boil at my stall....:coffee:

I have been to FUNAN DIGITAL MALL (ground flloor) to see the Fu Hua Herbal Tea Stall ( near to Ya Kun Coffee) ...i wanna to do similar like them ..but not that big as them...cause I do not have enough fund to hire staff....

pokerface 03-10-2008 02:15 PM

Re: How to Register for FOOD Business

hawker stall at amoy and maxwell also can - but rates is about 1.8k to 2+k, not inclu of sc&c charges.

hakwer sell $1.2 to $2 also reasonable. depends on what ingredients u put in.

u can go to NEA website to check the avail places for bidding. can see floor area, bid amt of successful bidders, etc

Re: How to Register for FOOD Business

i have checked out the rental at hawker centre from NEA....Amoy street and Maxwell need $1.6 - 2.2K per month ...

seem like COOKED FOOD stall have higher rental compare with other business :(

Shopping mall is best choice or hawker centre for beverage business?

I think you have to plan well lst, have the sufficient capital lst, and whether you can withstand the hawker's working hours, there's a lot of time n commitment involved, especially if there is not enough help

Hi Hanger,

I was reading your posts and exchanges of suggestions in the forum...

Wonder if you eventually started the operation of your business.

1) If yes, where did you eventually decided on the location of your drink business?
2) How is business?

Hi Rainingal, if you register the business you will be able to hire foreigners provided you have the meet the relevant quota details. Which means to say apart from registering the business, you need to hire locals and contribute to their CPF. For quota details, you need to look at Ministry of Manpower website.
