Web Based POS System
Dear all
I am exploring into migrating my POS system from the current on premise software package to a cloud based solution (software as a service or SAS). Some of the web based POS vendors look promising in their offerings but I am wondering if anyone has experience in the process of vendor selection, implementation and data migration as well as the value derived from such a move. Some issues I can imagine include: - vendors situated in the US and other countries. I imagine there will be a performance hit? - security? - integration with payment gateways, NETS and credit card hardware - mobility solutions like iPad. Do they work to improve productivity? - loss of internet...any offline support? - SAAS solution means pay and pay forever... Anyone with experience to share? I am also open to installing my own web based solution (open source) on my own hosted server. Thanks Jeremy |

Some comments to share.
- vendors situated in the US and other countries. I imagine there will be a performance hit? We are local partner for Vend POS (8,000 users globally). - security? https, SSL Level 3 - integration with payment gateways, NETS and credit card hardware No integration due to the high overhead cost (minimum 3.9% per transaction). - mobility solutions like iPad. Do they work to improve productivity? Definitely. Integration with other systems (accounting, ecommerce, inventory) is the reason to change. Multi outlet/registers operation and real time sync is by nature of the cloud. - loss of internet...any offline support? Yes. HTML5 is offline capable up to 100k transaction (for ipad). The number is higher for iPad Air. - SAAS solution means pay and pay forever... SaaS also means ROI, Free upgrade, pay as you use, scalability, no contract. :) Web based POS is the future POS, it may not have all the features that conventional POS offer you but it is feasible solutions to get started because of the ultra low initial cost. You can choose the BYOD option where the initial cost is around $500 with cash drawer and printer. Hope this will help. :) Kelvin EISOL |
Re: Web Based POS System
Yah... what if the internet connectivity is lost.. support for offline client is very important.. and even then, I am sure functionality will be limited in offline mode.
Anyways. Appreciate your comments! Still researching on a viable web POS solution! :) |
