Point-of-sale (POS) System
Hi everyone,
I was wondering where do retailers go to find POS solutions for their retail stores? Does NETS offer an all-in-one solution? Also I am quite ambitious and have a decent computing skill so I'd like to try and build my own. Does anyone know where I buy POS related hardware? barcode scanner, slip printer, cash drawer? Lastly I was wondering who do I go to find software solutions for my newly built POS system? thanks a lot |

If you let me know the purpose of your POS software and your requirements I can make you some recommendations. But do bear in mind that the software does not come cheap. Searching for the perfect software that you need takes a lot of time, effort and $$$( if you require customization). NETs is simply a payment gateway. They simply encourage a "cashless" society. But recently they quadrupled transactions costs. Your POS software should be NETs/credit card ready. Lastly, as a tip, when you choose a software vendor, do look out for all the hidden costs. Sometimes they sell you the software cheap, but when it comes to services they charge rates that new startups may not have the capacity to pay. Once you purchase it, you may be under the "mercy" of your software vendor for all future upgrades/report generation. So choose wisely! |
Re: Point-of-sale (POS) System
Yes I noticed a lot of software come bundled with specific hardware that supports it. Well I just need a simple POS software that can process my sales (of course) and keep tabs on my stocks.
For example i will need to move stocks around often, taking them in one day and sending them out another so i need to be able to print these records, like how many come in on this day and how many i send out on this day. good compatiblity with common hardware would be nice too, barcode scanners (these should work no problem since they emulate a keyboard) and receipt printers. Yes i do know the NETS machine is a gateway for payment but i would like to integrate this into the software so when i look at sales i can tell which ones were cash payments, which ones were NETs payments. |
Re: Point-of-sale (POS) System
Hello, this software will cost you a minimum of around 1.7k already. Seems to me the average market price for your kind of POS software is around 2.5k.
If your budget is not so high, i recommend you spend less for your hardware (since those depreciates really fast). You can get refurbished sets (for printer, customer display), and use a laptop for your desktop. It will prolly cost you around total 4k for total solution 1. Software 1.7k 2. Impact printer 0.3k 3. Barcode Scanner (China Brand) 0.15k 4. China Cash Drawer 0.15k 5. Customer Display 0.3k 6. Desktop+ monitor 1k Sim lim square has a couple of shops that sell those hardware u need. However the software vendors in Sim Lim Square may be a little.. *ahem* overpriced. Usually the good(best) software vendors do not require a physical outlet in a shopping centre. |
