Opening a New Shop in Square 2
I am new to the retail business.. Am thinking of opening a shop in Square 2 (Novena), 75 sq feet.
I have some questions in mind: 1. Where do I get racks, hangers etc? 2. Where can I get cash registers? 3. Where do I get recycle bags with printed names or paper bags wit printed names? 4. Full-time retail assistant, what's the market rate now? :) :thanx: |

Agree with daffodil, do think carefully because times are bad....
If you are only at the thinking stage, then ensure that you do your homework. Do survey the place and do some research to make sure it's the right place with the right target consumers for your products. No matter how small your business is, I always encourage a budget to be done so that you do not overspend and you know when to call it quit or when to expand when the time is right. As for stuff like racks, hangers, cash registers, etc, if you are ok with 2nd hand, do support our own forumers, go to Bizhub Forum, under Retail Packaging & Display Solutions and Retail POS, some of them are clearing their 2nd hand fixtures and fittings. Of course, if you are cash rich and your biz requires you to use all new items because of image or whatever reasons, you can try Yew Lee Metals for the display items and there are a few other shops.... off the top of my head I can't recall the name but this question has appeared many times in our forum, do a quick run through of the threads in "General Retail Discussion" there should be some useful info. Good luck! |

Seriously for those who are thinking of starting a new biz, sometimes you do get good stuff even if they are 2nd hand. In retail line, except for certain items that are easily subject to wear n tear, how bad can the fixtures & fittings be when every day they sit pretty in the shop? When I first started my shop, I got almost everything 2nd hand from hangers to racks to mannequins. When things get better and I'm sure I wanted to go on, I slowly replaced some of the fixtures n fittings. |
