Need to Register Business for a Proper E-shop?

Hi all,

Wondering if there's a need to register business if i'd like to have a very proper e-shop business?

I myself feel there's a need mainly because i will be having pretty big shipment of my stock and i am thinking it'd be more proper to receive all the items under my own business name?

Also, I am actually a full-time employee and thinking of registering a business, will that give a problem, ie.found out by employer, CPF issue, etc?

Anyone has the same experience?

Cheers :)

You dont have to. However, some payment gateway will require you to have a registered company.

I believe in your employment contract, there is a statement which prevent you to become a director of local company.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply. I am not thinking of setting up a company, but a business only, such as sole proprietorship or partnership type of business.

My employer has never stated in my contract that I am not allowed to start a business, only one that is of direct competition with my current company's business is not allowed. However, the business I am keen on starting is totally a different one.

cheers :)

hi, felt that it would be good to register business, so ur customers know u're not a fly-by-night company, esp lots of online fraud cases.

i'm also a full-time employee. and at the same time, i'm running a e-business, and selling my accessories on-site at selected bazaars and cactus orchard central (retail shop). my business is different industry from the one i'm working at, so shouldnt be a prob to my boss.

similarly my contract didnt state about owning a business, tho some companies would not like the idea (previously i went for an interview at an American MNC, the HR say i must stop my business in order to work for them! no way!). so far most of my colleagues, and even my boss son, know i run a business. i didnt tell my boss tho, but i guess he would have suspect or his son would have told him haha.

cpf wise, i didnt contribute as a sole proprietor as i'm still full time employed. but i declare the earnings for income tax purposes.
