For SMU bazaar, will there be crowds on Saturdays? Do the students attend classes on a weekend?

I went the first round. The crowd wasn't good. Vendors are very cramp together. Personally, i do not like it.

do you tink it will be profitable?

i went for fashionista 2 and didnt really like it too as there are too many stalls and like cholemel said, its quite cramped. plus its in the basement so the crowd is mainly smu students who are there for projects. the amount of people is not too bad, and i think they're more out for cheaper stuff.

the competition is also very stiff as many stalls price their (brand new) items real low! (eg. clothes for $10)

i may go back again but not for the next few series as im also busy..

Just did the Sep 19 one: Traffic is sooooo bad 80% were vendors. There was 1 miserable A4 sign stuck on a pillar, event was held underground and no one was distributing flyers (as promised) until 6pm! and even then only to pple already inside! All the vendors around us that we spoke to had less than 5 sales (yes we were so "free" we were chatting and observing) and someone actually left within 1 hour, 2 vendors were upset their stalls were moved without being informed..and when we left at abt 6+ this chap actually had this sad look on his face and said: No business hor. If I wasn't so depressed I would laugh! it was so badly run we will never go there again.

Really? I did the one on 19sept. I sold like.. more than 20 items.
Was in the middle of the whole stretch, and my side sales were not bad.
I personally selling clothes and self manufactured clutches at $17 each (then give a further $2 if they leave their email)

There was quite a good crowd actually, lots of students. Just that some want cheap stuff and some were damn willing to spend!

I join the recent fashionista 3. I was really disappointed. Too many vendors til it was super cramp and the crowd was terrible. Only students who just see only. Though it was only $32+ for the rental on tt day, i wil not sign up again.

Re: SMU Bazaar

unfortunately for us we had also booked for Nov & Dec as the way they advertised was like selling out fast, so fantastic etc. We asked for refund immediately after FS3 for Nov & Dev but they refused and give lame reasons like SMU had restrictions on signages etc and that it is after all aplace to study blah blah. I was like huh? what's the relevance here? So my advice is don't be so kan-cheong and go and book even when they say sellin out fast.

pocket4kids 25-09-2009 10:50 AM

Re: SMU Bazaar

I guess majority of their vendors are SMU students tt is why they say selling out fast. Located within the building hardly draw crowds only own ppl from SMU moreover its on sat, who on earth who wil actually goes sch on sat?

trustNo1 25-09-2009 11:39 AM

Re: SMU Bazaar

Precisely! That's why publicity is important to draw the public in..Unless of course if you have stuff that you can sell really cheap and you think it's relevant only to students.

oh dear...so bad huh? i booked the 31st oct n they keep blasting email to me to take on the nov n dec...i tot crowd is good??? My fren who is a SMU student said gd leh..

how about the one organised by weekends, usually 3 days at the 1st level??? anyone tried tt before?

trustNo1 25-09-2009 02:59 PM

Re: SMU Bazaar

yes, they keep blasting the email to say it's going fast that's why we feel pressured to quickly book - so, bad judgment on our part lor..:( don't know about the one held on 1st level, but this one is undergroud, dead as a graveyard.. better to go for your oct one first then see how it goes for you, don't commit so fast..

Re: SMU Bazaar

I tried out on Aug... Its not that bad.. Well I guess we need to find the correct stuff to sell there... Customers there are mainly students and outsiders. They are looking for bargain stuff... :) I'll be taking Oct - Dec too

FEEDYOURCLOSET 26-09-2009 11:44 AM

Re: SMU Bazaar

yeah! i agree. i tried the fs 3 it was not bad. some of them didn't have sales while some can sell up to 20 items at the end of the day.

i think it all boil downs to your product

cholemel 05-10-2009 05:16 PM

Re: SMU Bazaar

And the stuff there are dirt cheap kind.
Underground so there will be not passerby crowd.
Only flea follower looking for cheap stuff will go down.

I prefer the weekends ones which is on ground level, more walkin crowds.
The last time i join them, there are quite a bit of excutive passerby working nearby who has higher buying power and more willing to pay. However i missed the oct ones from weekends. Will be joining them for the nov ones.

SMU Bazaar below:

I just feel that there are too many Ventor and too little customer. It looks like there are alot of people looking at the Bazaar but those are the ventors and ventor's friends walking around the place.

Re: SMU Bazaar

I had my on the 12th Dec, the crowd is really bad. Most of the shopper are vendor, who come over to check your price. The stall are so cramp together that I feel like I'm in the refugee camp.

The biggest problem is the location. It is located at the campus' basement which is so isolated to the public and not many students walk pass during weekend. There is no banners to lead the crowd. Only a small poster on the notice board. My friends, who went, have difficulty finding the place.
