How to Clear Goods from Changi Airport??
Planning to order some goods but the overseas supplier only able to ship to Singapore by air to the airport only. The door-to-door charges are crazy  So i plan to have it ship by air just to athe airport.
1) Before goods arrive, what do i need to do? 2) What are the fees involved? I plan to DIY and not engage a forwarder. I doubt doing it by myself is cheaper but i wanna learn how. 3) I'm actually confused on how i physically gonna take the goods "out" of changi airport... keep visioning that i have to climb in the plane and drag the boxes out. Anyone has any idea on the procedures? Do i need to bring a trolley or pallet jack along on that day? *Notes* My goods ( i chked with customs) dun require GST payment and are non-controlled item. Hope this info helps :thanx: |
re: How to Clear Goods from Changi Airport??
I suggest you engage another freight forwarder that provide door-to-door service. If I am not wrong, to clear custom you need an import license and you need some documents from your supplier. You have to get these ready before the goods reach Singapore as it takes a few days to process. If you only apply when the goods reach Singapore, your goods will be stored at warehouse till all required documents and permit are in order. In the meantime, you will be slap with warehousing fees.
Since this is the 1st time, I think you should get a company that can provide you door-to-door service. They will be able to advice you on the permit and documents required. Then maybe you can DIY the next time. |
re: How to Clear Goods from Changi Airport??
I ask the supplier to quote me the door-to-door. It was an outrageous USD$24.60/kg...sure or not??
If like that anyone can help recommend a cheap FF? The items are low value (only USD$90) so no need to pay GST etc.... just need to send to my home in SG, fuss-free and no-frills :) |

Hi,
Can I know what you are shipping in? I suppose you are getting from USA, can't your supplier send via USA postal service? Unless you are bringing in something huge in cartons, otherwise I dun see why they cannot send via USA post. |
re: How to Clear Goods from Changi Airport??
my suggestion..
1.get a forwarder in Singapore, but u need to have a performa invoice from the country u export, if goods value less than SGD$400, no GST, but exceed, u need to pay it, upon arrival of the goods to u. normally forwarder will settle everything in one stop. 2. u no need to go airport by urself, let the professional do it, ,they (forwarder) jus need ur authorised letter, to collect on behalf of u, performa invoice, pls take note that u only have 48 hrs to clear everything in CAAS (or CIAS), i forget liao, sorry,..and u need to call them to find out, THEY DUN CALL U.. 3. dun think abt DIY, let professional do it for u, why waste time prepare import license, performa invoice, they need to pass up document one by one to clear custom, trust me, spend more time on ur business part, dun waste ur time, as wat i wrote, u only have 48 hrs to clear everthing, for professional, they only need half day, and somemore it's sat, nt that simple, especially if u import stuff frm thailand, u will vomit blood... dat's my 2 cents.....:smoke: |

hi
agree with the above...get a forwarder. are ur goods shipped alreadi? if nt, request for door to door n not door to airport. even if its door to airport, u nd a forwarder to clear for u. u cant do on ur own cos its too troublesome, not only cost but times esp u are nt clear abt procedures n process...u end up passing thru dept by dept n prob dunno wats happening. if via USA, shld be USPS, they send direct to ur hse. or via Vpost if u have an acct. |
Re: How to Clear Goods from Changi Airport??
The last time I've checked, you need to go through alot of process, and licensing, just to get into Changi Cargo. So imagine all the processes? Just get a forwarder to do it for you, and save the time, and trouble. It's easier, I hope.
