THE developers of Orchardgateway yesterday officially welcomed shoppers to the mall's main retail wing.

Great Eastern and United Engineers said the mall, made up of two components separated by Orchard Road, is almost at full occupancy.

About 90 per cent of the tenants at the larger building on Somerset Road, which has a net lettable area of 136,400 sq ft, have started operations, the developers said. The other block, named Orchardgateway@Emerald, has a net lettable area of 30,400 sq ft.

This includes an adjoining double-storey conservation shophouse that will serve as the new Singapore Visitors Centre.

The mall is part of a mixed-development project comprising the 500-room Traders Hotel and a six-story office block.

Its separate blocks are linked by a 53m overhead glass bridge and an underground walkway with retail offerings.

In addition to an underground link to the Somerset MRT station, the mall will also be connected to the neighbouring 313@Somerset and Orchard Central shopping centres.

A new 18,000 sq ft library branch, Library@Orchard, will be one of the anchor tenants at Orchardgateway. It is scheduled to open in October.

Other tenants include mixed-label boutiques such as Actually, The Emporium and Superspace, while new-to-market brands such as fashion boutique Pudu and Australian gourmet chocolate store Theobroma Chocolate Lounge can also be expected.
