By Fazillah Abdul Gaffa, for Yahoo! Singapore 1. Printed Matter Prints have been rocking runways in 2010 and they're showing no signs of stopping in 2011 either. While your mum may have taught you to never wear two types of prints together, mixing prints is a yes in 2011. 2. Something local Put a sprinkle of patriotism into your shopping list and check out a few young local designers. If the ones you always see are too avant garde for your liking, take a peek at CHALK – a fresh, zesty local label that will add a little girlish charm to your wardrobe. From waist-accentuating candy-coloured striped dresses to fresh fuchsia frocks with quirky little details, CHALK never fails to impress. 3. Maxi-anything From jumpers to skirts, maxi is key this season. Floor-sweeping dresses, skirts and jumpers in sumptuous fabrics and shades of blue, emerald green, coral, dusty pink, or champagne are your best bets. The best thing about the maxi trend is that they're almost timeless - so go ahead and indulge. 4. Shake your tail feather They've called it the shirt-tail hem, tapered hem, cutaway hem - but however you want to label this trend, the basic fact remains - dresses and skirts that are cut slightly longer at the back is a major 2011 trend, and it's not for the faint-hearted. It covers yet exposes. It's a mid-way between a mini and a midi, or a midi and a maxi. It's not easy to pull off, yet it looks effortless at the same time. We're twiddling our thumbs in anticipation of how this trend evolves this year. 5. Striped Out You can't go wrong with stripes in Spring, and year after year, there are variations that come with this trend. While 2010 was heavily inspired by military fashion, the stripes trend for Spring 2011 is an extension of nautical style, with the classic white and navy colour palette worn as dominant stripes. Try mixing and matching your nautical stripes with floral prints for a change and see what you get! 6. Bold Colour From Calvin Klein to Prabal Gurung to Micheal Kor, the trend is unanimous - the bolder the colour, the better. Go all out and put splashes of colour in your wardrobe. Turn heads and stop traffic all at the same time. 7. Candy Soles While not all of us are bold enough to add citrus shades of sunshine in our wardrobe, you can take a leap and add some colour on your feet instead. 8. Lace It Up Yes, lace is nothing new. It has transcended many seasons now, and by the looks of it, it'll be here for a while. The best thing about lace is that even though it's sheer, the fabric itself is so classy you would put almost no effort into looking sexy. 9. 70s Style It's hard not to welcome the 70s trend with a big hug when you've been through season after season of tight-and-skinny. The 70s means high-waist flared jeans, bell-bottoms and roomier clothes in delectable shades of emerald, ink and sapphire. 10. 60s Fashion Think Betty Draper. It is certainly no accident that the popularity of "Mad Men" has coincided with a resurgence of early 60s fashion. A sartorial inspiration to men and women alike - we welcome full and sheath skirts and dress amongst other things. Jazz up a granny skirt with sexy sheer top, or throw on a pair of sexy stilettos with it. ------------------- Ha, 60s fashion 70s style ![]() ![]() |
