Re: Full time or Part time Entrepreneur

well, personally i feel quite inspired by a book written by adam khoo, he wrote thatone of the factors that could contribute to success is to put yourself on the line...

of late, i find myself comtemplating if i should quite my full time job, take up a part time one and manage the business at the same time? i find it tough to do both, and do them WELL at the same time. i'm no superwoman lah :laff:

I had just found a shop, and am looking for goods for consignment and also any 2nd hand display case or anything suitable for selling fashion and accessiories. Anything to minimise my startup costs as I hv little capital! Much appreciate! This is my dream..I was hesitating becos of the recession and worry..but someone told me.."thinking" means no action..u will just "think"..u need to DO IT! So I did...scare of failure ? of course..but at least I can tell myself I TRIED! No regrets...wish me luck!

Re: Full time or Part time Entrepreneur

It is in a wet market! Why becos I rent direct from NEA therefore cheaper rental. After much consideration, I think that mall is not where I want to be even though there is a crowd. The rental and competition is too high. With the recession, I figured that people will shop more in their neighbourhood shops. With the right products that target at the right market, also I believe that building relationship with customers is even better than walk in. The location is in Holland Drive market :) and I intend to work half days only..haha..I already have accessories, if u wish to consign bags would be good. Nothing too fashionable and young looking though...maybe chic and practical?

Doing as a side line for many years from 2003 to 2008, 2 sisters have been selling from mainly apparels, some accessories to bags (pouches.. etc) at SG Yahoo Auction, until it is closed down last year.

As my sis holds a regular full time job and having hectic schedules,
I'd switched venture partner in year 2009.
Now me and my cousin worked together we run about bazaar for selling apparels.

And as a middlemen supplies for interested parties as wholesale
and consignment with workable agreement. As quite a few number of
people is asking for consign or wholesale supplier for their
sideline, push cart and retail at times, instead of manufacturer as
they charge high quantity produced and quite a amount needed for the stocks.

Passion in fashion is one of my dreams. We also seek that we will be able to help anyone out there for their shared dreams in this passion too.

Re: Full time or Part time Entrepreneur

Recently I just quit my full time job to do my online business and I can say that it is quite a brave move of me and you need to think carefully whether it is worth it.. Cos of my online business I normally go and sleep about 2am and wake up at 6.30am for my work(as my workplace is super far away from my house). Everyday I can say I am late for work and colleagues had been complaining about me and I think it is time to give up my full time job to complete my dream which is my online business.

ChinChic 07-05-2009 09:19 PM

Re: Full time or Part time Entrepreneur

wow! very brave of you! do u then rely solely on ur online shop to make a living? are you happy with your decision to quit your full time job?

Re: Full time or Part time Entrepreneur

In fact I am very happy that I had quit my full time job cos I will be concentrate on my business and I can have my freedom too and i won be wasting time working for other people and I can have all the time I want..

Re: Full time or Part time Entrepreneur

Indeed, you are brave.

I too wanted to quit my full time job despite the current economic situation and concentrate on my online business. I want to pursue my passion and my dreams.

In fact, last month I had actually gave my resignation. Sadly, it was rejected. I was overwhelmed by their persistent request for me to stay on. I caved-in.

After reading your post, I felt a stir in me to go ahead with my initial plan. My full time job had been stagnant and not much opportunity for career development. No challenges to better skills improvement yet commanding 24hr attention.

Perhaps, I should relook my objectives and stay firm on my decision.

wow! i feel inspired! hope to join you one of these days! at the moment, considering my financial c0mmitment & other family issues, i'm unlikely to quit having a full time job for the next few months... i really can't wait, never really like work for people.

meanwhile. apart from the retail bis i'm planning to start in the next 1 to 2 months, i'm also looking at developing other lobangs to have additional income streams before quitting.

For me, I still have to support my family ( my dad and my mum is not working and my sister just started working) and to be frank I still have a house to pay but what I will suggest to you all is stay firm on your decision. But you cant wait for money to drop down from the sky. You got to be prepare that you got to put extra hard work than normal.. I dun know I love to run bazzars or events as I love to serve customers and I love the praises that I got from my customers or email.. I also love to make money from online too.. I love to see my email filling up my orders..lol...

I recently just tendered too. Sick of working over there and thot of spending more time doing own biz rather than working for other ppl. At the same time, i also learning some makeup course. So, its actually quite a stressful life i hab right now. However, my boss offered part time position for me. Pay wise is rather attractive than other part time job. So im considering it again... Really difficult to make choices sia!

Hi All,

I hope we can support each other here. As my 3 years + experience of being an entrepreneur tells me, it is not easy, especially when friends around you are not really supportive and sometimes pour cold water on you.

Wish everyone here all the best!

Re: Full time or Part time Entrepreneur

The most important is singapore rental for shops are too high for us. Unlike countries I been to like Bali, thailand, malaysia their rentals are also very high too. Why for you need to sell your things to cover the rent and in the end after your profits you getting back less? Unlike those famous brands like Gucci,LV,they dun mind paying cos their boss is not from Singapore.. They think Singapore money is cheap for them.. $10,000 rental per month let's say like $100..

I'm currently running my own pushcart full-time. Not as easy as it look. You need to tend your cart 24/7 with no off days, no medical leave etc. If you can't open your cart on a particular day, you're require to ask the permission of the management if not, fined. Very tiring i can say. But, we only hope that our sacrifies would be paid off.

Juz started an online shop selling Japanese items that are not avail in Spore to the local mkt. Considering dat Ive only operated for one wk Ive alrdy had a couple of orders and these buyers are not frens.

Think its v impt to provide gds dat are not avail in Spore and also noe where to advertise properly. Ie identify target mkt and advertise in those websites / directories dat cater to them.

Personally i enjoy this online biz experience v much and even though the profits are not huge now Im still ok w it. Im dg it for extra income and its more of personal fulfillment for me :laff:

Just out of curiosity, how many of you are doing it full time and how many on a part-time/ side line basis? Think this is really interesting!:)

Anyway, for those doing on a full time basis, either online selling/ running around pushcarts/ bazaars etc, am seriously wondering if there is something we can all do together to pull all our resources and set up something more permanent than running around?? Hmmm, anyone interested?? Just a thought...:)
