I've been wanting to try out ebay for a very long time...but people around me discourage me...saying things like:

-they say they'll meet up with you but didn't turn up
-after a few days, if something happened to your product, they demand a refund.
-they refused to pay before seeing the product first.
-ebay take a percentage from the selling price if the buyer uses Paypal or Visa or any of ebay's payment mode.

Now I read the comments here...I'm confused...I guess if I don't try, I'll never know right?

Like most of you have said...it depends on luck too...so maybe the people around me hasn't been that 'lucky' while those of you here are a lucky bunch... *wink*:clap:

Actually you can try GUMTREE or 99AUCTION. 99AUCTION has the almost same function as yahoo auction but photo uploading is about 300kb

Hi like to quiry, u said u have sold on overseas auction but have u encounter any problems such as money transaction, strange ppl who 1 2 buy?

Bcos I recently, received a email from a person. He said he is interested in my item which I put up on auction but he is from Nigeria. I felt not very safe to do transaction with him as he request to use west union payment, somemore Nigeria ppl always scam.

If you are selling overseas, I strongly recommend you to ONLY accept orders from USA, UK, Canada and Australia.

Paypal & Credit cards will normally charge 3-4% per transaction. Personally, I dont think Paypal fraud detection is good enough. You may need to change your paypal setting to only receive payment from an account which has a credit card tied to it. This normally will eliminate quite a huge percentage of fraud buyers.

You will have to state it clearly on your refund/exchange policy.

I believe ebay terms & conditions spell it out clearly that by clicking on the button, the buyer is committed to the purchase.

My suggestion is not to accept this transaction. I have been a seller on both Yahoo and ebay US and ebay SG for the past 3 years. I would say about 99% of my sales have been successful. Occassionaly you do tend to get suspicious queries. If for any reason you feel uncomfortable with any transaction, don't go through with it. Also, always use authorized or official gateways to deal with such queries i.e. use the ask question feature on ebays site to deal with such queries. NEVER use your own email to reply.

This is a thread in the Selling on eBay & Yahoo! Auctions forums" look up for thread #16, #13 and #11 on my experience. Same as you after going thru the forum I've tried to put up on ebay again it's ok even got buyers from overseas who asked me to find things for them. I personally feels that luck do plays an impt. part. Remember only the singapore ebay it's free.

Depends on item is it necessary for meet-up? For me I won't sell items that require meet up as too troublesome hee... Things won't always run smoothly but we've to take in our own stride.

Ya a certain percentage multiply your selling price and plus another S$0.50.

This is a thread in the General Online Selling Discussion forums.

I only accepts Paypal for overseas buyers as other mode of payments have to incur higher charges or I feel not safe some trying to get info from you in order to access your account etc. So it's best that you do your 'homework' .. ask for clarifications from bank which I did and if staffs give you different answer better seek for further clarifications. I'm the 'kiasu and kiasee' type haha... If the person doesn't want to pay me thru paypal or got problem in paying thru paypal, I rather call off the deal so can sleep better at nite hee...

Oh may I know if I didn't state which countries I don't want to sell to then the buyer from that particular countries already bid my item then how? Oh no I have to amend 100 over items in the description in ebay then....

Oh then I've to ask ebay any short cut for the amendments then...sigh...TY.
