it's always impt to build your ratings/reputation while dealing on online auctions.
Sellers with High Ratings/Reputation basically means that their transactions/dealings have been tried and tested.

With a well proven track record, it'll just mean that your potential customers will have more confidence and faith when dealing with you.

therefore, as a sellor, always ensure that your lead time is kept minimal, always reply your emails, and send out your items promptly.

After which, give your buyers a good rating ... this will directly hint* them to give you one back. (but shd they forget to rate you, you can always be abit thick skin and send them a frenly reminder)

Just a simple scenario:
A seasoned seller with 300 positive ratings selling a VCD at $10
A newbie seller with 0 ratings selling the same VCD at $8

which would you choose?... i know our answer varies.. but i guess the seller with a high rating is more appealing... don';t u think so??

But what if u found sellers that are selling same items and trying to attempt to spoil your reputation??

cause recently just had this incident. However the seller is also at the same time doing promotion for me. keke :D

yes , its quite true. But at the same time, high good rating does not mean no bad rating too, there are always some nasty buyers out looking for troubles...

You are right. Reputation is very important. I state my eBay feedback ratings on my website so that my potential customers feel they can trust me. I think it works. [Ebay id: usa-shipper ]

I agree that it is impt to build up the reputation. however is there a need to hint and even be a bit thick skin to ask the other party to give a good rating? What if the customer is not entirely happy about your service or product?

Selling on ebay is great.

However, I noticed that most buyers in ebay are looking for a steal thus you must be prepared to lower your profits, even to the event of waiving the shipment fees.

I also noticed that if you start your auction with 0 dollars then you get bids or 0 dollars to about 5 dollars.....it does not really make business sense.

But as a marketing point of view YES, and that is what I do for my ebay store.

Well, not so for me maybe I'm not so lucky in ebay. I'd encountered few non serious buyers from overseas; 1) ask for exchange of items 2)promote their products after got my email 3)cancel after bid for the item. Yahoo is ok for me so far had sold some items to overseas customers, touch wood hope it'll be ok. Thus, depends on individual.

Ya, its better to have few items at low attractive selling price so that once you got the 1st deal and ratings, ppl will have more confidence in you. Its best to be real as 1st deal is impt. so that the person will buy from you again or tell his/her frens about your items.

Well, if the seller choose to do so his/her items is not ok when reached the buyer got negative ratings... of course competitors can also do it but when other buyers read the neg. ratings they've to analyse on the comments and response by both sides.

Also check thru what other items had been sold and are the price reasonable - will ppl buy it or whatever reason you can think of. Most impt you can also find clue from the question and answer posted by buyer/seller if any.

So 'suay' recently also got this yahoo customer unrated just make use of asking qn to post his/her website to sell. I just click as spam and deleted the qn. Do u all encounter any prob. in yahoo/ebay too?

It depends on what you are selling. You have to do research and see what prices does your item normally closes at. Add similar items to your watchlist and see what are the closing price.

Sell at eBay International if you item is popular as the market is much bigger and at particular county's eBay site if it is more popular in that country.

For example, when I was trying to sell Football figurines one time (more than 100 of them), I know that these are make in UK and so listing in eBay UK will be an idea place. I notice in Y! Singapore auctions they are going at probably S$5-S$20, but it eBay UK, depending on how rare the item is, it can go at a very high price. So I listed my first batch of more sort after figurines at 2.99pounds each. My highest closing in this batch for a single figurine is 38pounds (thirty-eight pounds). While the average is about 10pounds. And buyers pay for shipping as stated on top of bid price. I charged a reasonable shipping that includes using hard box and styrofoam to ensure the items reach them in perfect condition. I have many repeat customers who buy many at one go.

Good communications with buyers and great packaging helps me to attain 100% positive ratings.

Heavy items are not recommended to list on eBay International though unless you are confident your items will sell as International shipping charges may kill you.

Buying online from someone you have not met is always a risk so you have to weigh that risk against the things you want to buy and judge for yourself is it worth the risk.

I buy from eBay US all the time because I am confident that the items I want is worth the risk and trouble. I have made many purchases from eBay (more than 150 times) and I am happy to report that only ONCE did I not receive my goods and did not hear from the buyer. There is a couple of occasions that gone wrong buy the buyer promptly resolve it without me needing to fork out any money. So my general buying experiences is great.

What I look out for is reputation (it's not easy to fake 10000 positive ratings), and the number of bad ratings. If they are newer sellers I will read their feedback and check out the ratings of the buyers who rated them. I feel eBay has a much better control than Yahoo Singapore Auctions and a great reporting mechanism who root out bad sellers much faster.

I will put on watchlist many many auctions of the same item, to compare the closing price, and also their shipping price. Some may sell at $0.01 but shipping cost is $39.99 while another may sell the same item at $10 but the shipping cost is only $9.99. Also, read their terms and condition carefully, is there a paying method that you can use to pay? If them only accept Western Union, think twice, thrice and four times. If they accept Bank Draft and do add in the cost of buying the bank draft into the overall price (bid price + shipping) when you consider who you buy from.

I personally prefer sellers who accept PayPal as it is for me the easiest way to pay an overseas seller.

After reading thru most of the comments, I'd tried put up in the ebay.com.sg again. I was lucky this time as 1 of my item sold within few days to a Malaysia buyer. Surprisingly that it was an item which can't sold off in yahoo but can sold in ebay.

1) Is it some ppl dunno got yahoo auctions or what reasons? 2) The buyer had given the address but shown by paypal as an unconfirmed address though payment was received thru paypal? Well, I'll just post it out by this two days as have requested for registered mail and the address tally with the address given in the ebay system-generated email. You all encountered any overseas customers that have unconfirmed address? Pls advise. TY.

Hi, I read this method of getting a 100% positive feedback for $1 in an ebook and just that I could share it with you guys. Don't ask me where is this book k? Anyway the gist of it is very simple. There are many information products in Ebay that costs $0.01. Simply buy 100 of these products from 100 different sellers and voila, you are buyer and you have paid them so you should most probably get a 100% good feedback/reputation. I've not tried this method yet. Should I ? hahaha Share your views. Cheers

You just have to sent to the address they registered in ebay.No need to care weather the paypal says that it is an uncomfirm address.

Ok tks. Sometimes also must confirm with them the address n paypal as it can be changed after registration as don't want people know about it till it's really settled. I've tried that before. FYI.
