Re: FREE shopping cart?

the more correct right url should be www.oscommerce.com

Anyway :

http://www.oscommerce.com/solutions/documentation

http://www.zen-cart.com/index.php?main_page=page&id=16

http://www.cubecart.com/site/helpdesk/

If you are okay to pay for more complicated solutions :
http://www.creloaded.com/

Personally, oscommerce is the long-time contender for open source shopping cart or e-commerce solution.

However, of late, there have been good derivations from oscommerce,
namely, 2:
1. CRE Loaded
2. Zen Cart.

I will be conducting a hands-on workshop in May on using Zen Cart at Toa Payoh Library.

PM me for more information.

Thanks!

I have a business where I help people get things from USA and Japan auction and shopping sites. Can osCommerce provide a solution where my clients key in the packages they ordered and then my American and Japanese agents follow up by updating the received dates of the packages ? Many of my clients have told me that they would love to be able to track their packages online. Thanks for any help. Ultimateworker, I may go to your workshop if I am not too busy.

Well, for the first question, its not that easy. OsCommerce, like any online store front, is just that, a store front for the catalogue of services and rates in a database. As those items are on other people's site, it will be difficult to link unless you have a backend tie up to their store-front. What you might need is a backend that allows you to calculate and compute the rates on the fly with costing and then checkout, this is most likely going to need some customisation.

as for the tracking of shipment and packages, that will be entirely dependent on the shipping agent and the tracking which you want to enable.

In a nut-shell, unless you have tie-ups with the online shops, the tracking will not be likely as it is in their system. You can at best, track the shipping of item if there is an option from them to send you system update of the item.

It is entirely possible if there is a common email that you use to capture the item status and from there, you can parse out the information into the various item under your store order reference.

This will require some customisation and a qualification process of the online store and the shipping agent that you use.

thnks

Hi X Factor,

I personally tried out Zencart, Cubecart and OScommerce and eventually settled on Cubecart. I like it for it's simplicity and not too bad forum support. I couldn't get OScommerce working and decided it is too difficult for me even though I do agree it is probably one of the best. I find Zencart's way of presenting not as good as Cubecart. All are highly configurable and I urge you to try them out to find one you feel is more suitable for you. What I like may not be what you like.

If your hosting company have cPanel, it will at least make the installation of the software easier, if not, they do have very good documentation on installation. Cheers!
