Thumbs up Post Your Ads in Singapore's Notice Boards

Hi all Towkays / Neos,
Have you all tried to post your Company Ads in MRT n HDB notice boards?
I wonder if that helps cos i am doing it for bosses like yourself.

Many of the notice boards are located in the North of Singapore:
And i noticed only property ads, piano lessons, tuition, diy, moving house ads are there.

See link here:

Didn't see much of the blogshops ads at these notice boards.

Yours sincerely,

So this is a solicitation for business If you are providing a service to fellow forumers, surely you must have done your homework, and be able to tell us if advertising on those platforms will help increase our business/sales. This is not a FOC service, I can see from the link there's a charge but you are telling us "I wonder if it helps".... mmmmm...

Anyway, my questions are:
1. Price starts from $80 and does not include designs of ads. So the charge is to cover the transport and effort for running the northside of Singapore pasting our ads?
2. From those pics, the ads are all cluttered together, no matter how outstanding our ads are, how do you ensure our ads will always be at the top, and not pasted over by another ads...
3. Ad Boards at HDB and MRT stations - Is there a life span to those ads? Meaning will someone from the relevant department come along and remove the ads after 3days, 1week or ????
4. Ads on non-advertising boards (eg construction fence, unmanned wooden signboard), is this allowed? legal? does it constitute vandalism? Others are doing doesn't mean this is legal... unmanned wooden signboard is unmanned but nevertheless public property?

Please enlighten us. Advertising is important especially for newbies, so any form of advertising when suggested and shared is truly good but we need to make sure from a business perspective, we are doing things cost effectively and legally.

hi xoxoxo,
Thanks for your questions @ this General Online Selling Discussion section.

I have only did some homework only on the numbers of notice boards available in some of the HDB estates in North side of Singapore.
Some stats here ,perhaps helps us to visualize:

There are over 100 boards just in Woodlands alone.
& I just received one Tuition agency assignement to post ads for his company, he mentioned the place he stays Sembawang alone had 150 notice boards.

Yishun i am not sure but it could be more than 60 notice boards.

So if we were to add up all the notice boards, it's easily more than 250 notice boards. It takes at least an hour for 1 person to paste A5 size ads in one estate alone.
All ads to be posted up takes at least 1 to 2 days approxiamtely if you are fast n good. If your legs are still strong, you do not need to wear slippers. bette to wear a pair of sports shoe /comfortable Clarks air-cushioned shoe and make sure your knees are not overly worked. (not promoting for any shoe company huh, i only use BATA's "Power" brand sports shoe ;D )
That shd answer your first question as to wether its better to engage a third party to post or do it yourself, S$80 for labor and transportation.
To pay for ads space at some places can cost you how much , i am not very sure but i think you guys can tell us here. S$100 to $200/ for a A4 size space per week ?

Rgd your the 2nd question on how to make sure all your ads stand up from the rest, usually what i will do is to "move" the other ads that are duplicate to another corner or simply discard them since its duplicate. If worse come to worse, tear away those that are expired or ads that are not fitting (fast loans or illegal ads) so as to make space for my ads. usually I wont need to resort that method as the space available are usually quite all right for me to move around to fit in all ads.
After that, I will use watery-fluid type of glue to post up on board which is not so easy to remove.

your 3rd question is a bit too deep for me to answer, the notice boards states that the Town Council people will send someone to remove all ads on the 1st and 15th of every month. But with so many boards there, i usually see some of my ads still standing strong there. But as an advice to all my customers and tow kays, i will still suggest that either you pay me or you do it yourself to "refresh" your ads every 15 days on the 1st and 15th every month , +/-3 days (not praying days huh , lol)...

the last and 4th questn. the Army slogan : "Dun Get Caught"
so far i some of my clients thet had posted quite a few ads on some of these "illegal" spaces but no actions taken.
you dun go and paste everyway of course , use discretion.
but end of the day, i mention in my blog that any legal action taken against you , i will not bear responsibilty.

the best suggestion is to post on the notice boards like the ones i suggest in the North side of Singapore. Those estates already have more than 250 boards, unless you have other suggestions?

There are also many legal boards in along the East West MRTs and only 2 boards in Jurong West near Jur point.
The ones in Yishun, Ang Mo Kio, Yio Chu Kang Mrts need to pay 50cents per day (min 7days).

Those are maintained by a contractor of LTA .
You have to go there look for a man on WeekDays ,Mon-Fri after around 430pm to 5pm AMK Mrt near the mobile ice-cream seller. Public holdiays, Sats & Sundays no operation.

Popular ads that people rushed to read on these boards are Property, Tuition.

as to online shopping / pushcarts i am sure if its interesting ad, young people will still read. There are many unexplored avenues here. We wont know who will be reading your ads.
Jus like I helping my friend who has stroke to post his home tuition ads , it attarcted phone calls even though I posted it so far from his home in Jurong.

He even had unexpected phone calls from working adults requesting for English lessons even though his ads clearly targeted at Parents looking for tutors for their kids.

I had many things to share with you but if any of you are really keen to post your ads in these notice boards, please feel free to contact me..

signing off...yeah
alan

Wink Re: Post Your Ads in Singapore's Notice Boards

thank you Alan.

1. So it's more like $80 for 2 weeks of advertising on approved Council's board with possibility of ads not being removed.

2. As you mentioned, "usually what i will do is to "move" the other ads that are duplicate to another corner or simply discard them since its duplicate. If worse come to worse, tear away those that are expired or ads that are not fitting (fast loans or illegal ads) so as to make space for my ads. usually I wont need to resort that method as the space available are usually quite all right for me to move around to fit in all ads. " I hope everyone using such form of advertising do not ever need to resort to this method of moving and tearing. It is unfair, nothing to be proud. Today you moved or tear away my ads, tomorrow or within the next half hour, someone could be doing the same to your ads.

3. "Army slogan : "Dun Get Caught" ..... end of the day, i mention in my blog that any legal action taken against you , i will not bear responsibility" Be a responsible service provider, anything illegal, pleased don't even suggest it.

I'm glad to hear about your home tuition ads deal, I think such noticeboards are great for properties and tuitions, we see many of them and to the point that it become almost like a go-to place if people need to look for a rental room, tuition services, etc. As for fashion, I wonder will this works. Anyone want to try it? The only drawback appears to me to be too north-side focus... trying running to the east side and see if anything can be done too...

Hi XoXoXo,
thanks for your reply again...my replies as blow

1) Yap you are right! S$80 for 2 weeks is promotional rate during this June school holidays. Usual price is S$50 for each of the 3 estates:
Woodlands (approx 180 notice boards)
Sembawang (aprox 180 notice boards)
Yishun (approx 180 notice boards)

Package deal is S$120 for 3 estates.

please provide max size of your ads in A5 which is half of A4 size.
(smaller design will be better as the risk of getting posted is easier
and will get torn off so easily)

2) When I did my posting, I noticed some of tuition/property agents who put up their ads on these notice boards, their ads are too big for other users to fit into the boards. Hence have to "resort" to move and paste... lol

3) there is one tution agency who asked me to put like that even though I told him the risk of doing so. Its up to indvidual company if they wanna to "cheong" . But I suggest is to stick to official notice boards provided by the town councils. There a total of about 500 to 550 notice boards with a modest estimate of 10,000 potential viwers, why take the risk. But they still insist, sigh....

As for fashion n jewelries, handicarfts advetising maybe you can try posting your ads at Cold Storage of NTUC Finest Outlets. Some of them allows commercial. I have tried that in Holland V, 6th Avenue, King Albert, Bugis, River Valley, Great World City, Funana, Marina Parade, etc....

I saw quite a handful of ads are garage sales and lessons + some handicafts sales. Perhaps can help?

In my opinion, for fashion related trade, those who want to use this form of advertising need to consider who are your targeted consumers. For e.g. If you are selling apparels targetted at students and youngsters, pasting ads at Cold Storage and NTUC may not be the most ideal place.

Alan, given that there is no proven track record (for fashion related ads), perhaps you may want to consider giving free trial for a limited period

Anyway, thanks for all the replies and best of luck in your entreprise!
