Paypal experiences
Hi,
Anyone using Paypal as their payment gateway have experiences to relate? I am considering using Paypal, but heard that chargebacks and account locks are common. Cheers, QC |

Re: Paypal experiences
I have used Paypal to receive overseas payments, so far so good. No hiccups, nothing whatsoever. Usually when the funds come in, I will straightaway withdraw/transfer the funds from my Paypal account into my local bank account. Do note that if the transfer is < SGD200, there will be a $1 charge by Paypal I think, so if amounts are small, I will accumulate the monies before doing a transfer. I will also watch out for the exchange rates. Sometimes the exchange rate is no good, so I will just leave the monies in my Paypal account.
To receive local payments, I will not use Paypal, simply ask my buyers to transfer by ATM. Faster since the transfer from Paypal to our local bank account takes 5-7 business days. Never used Paypal to make purchases so do not know how good it is but reckon it should works as just good. |

Re: Paypal experiences
I have used paypay as an accepted payment for my eBay International listing as well as my online shop (running cubecart). Both I have no problem receving payment and their charges is one of the lowest to start out accepting credit cards payment without a need for merchant account.
They now accept payment in Singapore Dollars which makes things a lot easier if your target market is mainly local. Of coz US Dollars is also acceptable. Withdrawing money to a Singapore bank account is also a breeze BUT do make sure your PayPal account name is exactly the same as your bank account name. If it is a business paypal account, make sure your business name is exactly the same as your bank account business name. 'Bounce' payment can be quite costly (I believe something in the region of S$25 admin fee for every bounce payment). Cheers! |

Re: Paypal experiences
It's a easy and fast way to rcv payments online. Especially since most serious online shoppers should have paypal if not credit card options to pay with. I have used it quite a fair bit and have not encountered any problems so far.

Re: Paypal experiences
Ya, its fast and easier to receive payments. NOTE: SGD$3 CHARGES WHEN YOU 1ST SET UP BUT WILL HAVE REFUND IN FULL IF YOU MADE PURCHASE AND PAID BY PAYPAL.
However, you need to send 'request money' if buyers can't pay thru after you've given your paypal email address to them. Not sure why at first my account is ok but later always have to send 'request money'. I've called up paypal but was told that my account is ok maybe due to buyers account; language settings or other reasons. Well, still able to receive payments successful after 'request money' is sent so no choice more troublesome and have to assure buyers that I'm a verified seller. May I know anyone got any idea what is 'cash in letter'? what is the procedure? What is merchant account? I've a buyer (member of ebay since nov 2004, Croatia; got 151 ratings from sellers who had many ratings; only 1 negative rating) who stated such : "please send me Your POSB bank details and my friend will pay instead me or send me Your mail address and I will send cash in letter". I've sent 'request money' to the paypal email address as given by him but till now still not yet paid up. I've told him that my account is ok and ask him to check with paypal on his account. Of course I won't give him my bank account no. as stated clearly that international buyers to pay by paypal. Moreover someone to pay on behalf have to beware as I've read paypal sellers' advice. TY. |

Otherwise, perhaps you can request for his friend's details and you liase with him directly for payment settlement?? Usually, I will furnish by bank details such as account number and account name to facilitate interbank transfers. Don't it happen this way for most online sellers?? |

Re: Paypal experiences
Paypal is a mode of online payment, like nets. Paypal accepts credit card payment. So when someone buys from your website, payment is handled by Paypal. The money goes to Paypal. thereafter paypal transfers the money to you. they take a percentage of your sale though. Hope this helps.
