Expert Advice Needed!!!

Hi everyone,

I'm new in this trade and hope to get some advice from expert out there.

I have limited capital so has actually setup a blogshop selling Taiwan ladies fashion but seems like response is not good :( So I was wondering anyone out there can give me some advice??? :confused2:

1. Is blogshop a good idea?
2. Which type of fashion is more fast moving in blogshop? Youngester trend/office wear/kids wear/t-shirt/upsize clothing???
3. Average pricing should be set at what range? Less than SGD20/25/30??

Really appreciate your help:)

Pearlyn

Hi Pearlyn,

Blogshops can be rather slow to target unless your products are really very good. I'm not into fashion and will never buy clothing online because I want to try before buying.

T-shirts seem to be easier to sell as the sizes are normally standard S/M/L/XL kind but you must at least tell potential buyers whether these sizes are Asian or Caucasian ones.

Pricing is entirely up to you. Look at your cost price of each item (inclusing shippment) then times at least 100% of that amount. That should be your selling price. You have to see how good the material of your products are and weigh it against consumer's mentality.

Ultimately, having a physical retail space will boost up your sales and awareness but you'll have to becareful on that.

That's all I can say. :)

Thanks for the advice Earthlyscent. :thanx:

One more question, would you consider if detail measurement & material were given?

You mean made-to-measure clothings? Well, if I were you, I would find that pretty difficult to do as you need time to search or make it according to your customer's measurements. Not very feasible.

Oops, sorry for not explaining clearly. I mean put in detail measurement of the ready made ladies fashion that I've purchase. For instance ladies top, I've put in the full shirt length, shoulder length, bust measurement, sleeve length, waist length etc and what is the material

Hi there,

I totally agreed with earthlyscents. Selling online is always slow and to be frank there's too many blogshop around. I tried selling on ebay for 2 mths and there were no response at all. I then turn to pushcarts. Singapore is a very convenient place to shop and not many people will turn to buying online unless they are looking for particular stuff that they cannot find outside. if you think you are going to do this as your work and full time then my advise is to move on to pushcarts/events/bazzar. No point waiting for sales to come in. u will not survive..take care:)

It may still be possible but as I've mentioned, it's more practical to set up a physical retail space (I recommend events or bazaars first as you can start with per-day rental to test the market and hand out your contacts) to launch your company. Singaporeans are fussy customers (that includes me :p) and some will go into the extend of degrading your products so that they can get super-cheap deals. So be warned.

Hi,

I used to sell clothes, it used to be moving quite fast and good profit margin. But in recently 1 yr, selling clothes is no longer that profitable cause a lot of online website / blog / livejournal are selling damn cheap. Plus in shop, there are frequent sales and their pricing is even cheaper than buying online at times! Very competitive, so i stop selling eventually. =)

1. Is blogshop a good idea?
Ok but you need to spend a lot of effort doing publicity online. Submit to search engine etc.

2. Which type of fashion is more fast moving in blogshop? Youngester trend/office wear/kids wear/t-shirt/upsize clothing???
The best seller for my blog last time are dresses.

3. Average pricing should be set at what range? Less than SGD20/25/30??
Now many blog or web are selling dress @ less than $20. But that spell that profit margin is really low. I also do not know why they are doing so.

Having events / brazzar / fleas are good to clear stock. But usually people there are looking for cheap stuff too. Many of the stores might be selling clothes as well. So it really depends where are you. I share a booth with my buddy who sell clothes. On bad days, he sold 0-3 items only. On good days, he can sell appx 20-25 clothes. And his items are nice & cheap! Clearance from $10 onwards at the roadshow only. I also got no idea why at some location, it just no sell.

Good Luck to yr business. =)
