Default Retail Outlook for 2011

everybody is a fortune-teller.
i am one too.

Based on my short but totally interesting retail experience,
here are my predictions for 2011:

Not good, in fact, may be quite bad...
small time retailers will be hit superhard cos the real effects of the recession will be felt in 2011.

Why?

Well, the whole global economy is rested on US and US people are not spending like they used to... they are saving much more...

The Chinese? Well, the middle income are just making ends meet after crazy rentals at the major cities. The top 0.1% will only buy luxury brands...

And that applies also to Singaporeans too. Everybody moving up the ladder progressively... from longchamp / agnes b to coach to LV / gucci to chanel / tods...

US will pull everybody else down. Another European country will probably says I have no money to pay my instalments, starting another round of panic...

And Singapore government like all other Asian governments are not pumping money into the economy anymore (eg. CPF rebates).

There will always be people thinking they are the next Charles and Keith etc. But with not enough deep pockets, one year is the maximum they will survive next year.

If you are in retail, prepare to bleed for another good one year
with not a better tomorrow...

gosh... i sound like a "end is near" preacher...
but anyway, that's my fortune telling...

anybody begs to differ?

Agreed.

Everything has gone up for the past years like crazy.

A simple example:

5Kg Thai rice was $7.90 back in 2007. It is now $13.80. It is a jump by $5.90 (75%).

Do you think shoppers' salary increase by 75% since 2007? How about those $ sucked by Casino?

So, in the end they have to strap their belt.

Oh well, that's life ... May be the end is near haha 2012 prophecy.
